Finally got an in stock notification for the Mossberg Flex adapter I've been waiting on. Thinking of building a "travel/hotel" shotgun. I'd be switching the pistol grip out for a stock once I got it into the hotel and taking it in & out of the car each time. I currently have a 18.5" and 20" 590 (for heavy metal 3 gun). Should I use one of them as the "travel" gun or buy a Maverick or another 590. I worry about the durability of the Maverick over the 590 as well as the limited forend options. Also, would probably load with mini shells for hotels. Have been using my AR pistol in 556 for this duty. Figured the 55 grain bullets would be "safer" and have less chance of overpenetration.

So, stick with the 556, or go with the shotgun. If shotgun 590 or Maverick?

Thanks in advance.

I break a lot of things. LOL. We joke that it ain't "Beaver proof". I had the tube unscrew on my 1301 3 gun shotgun and didn't realize it was loose until it had burred up the follower enough to cause it to bind in the tube. Loctited now.

Though, I would go with a Maverick or some other make if you go that route... a folding stock on a 500/590 makes the safety annoying.
Why not go for a folding stock rather than switching things around in the room?

I actually have a folding stock with springs in it that I plan to sell. The folding mechanism whacked my thumb joint every time I shot it.

Springs in it? What kind of shotgun and stock is it out of curiosity?

55gr fmj over penetrates walls like crazy. If you’re talking some quality HP, maybe. But if using 5.56 I’d stick with either frangible or heavy HP.

For a confined space like a hotel and for the sake of having to transport it a lot, have you considered a shockwave?

Some of us haven't stayed in terrible motels when traveling for work and it shows 😆
You talking about the Knights Inn off I-85 in north Charlotte?

Been there, spent one night with a 45 under the pillow.

I was thinking NJ, LA, TX, and OK, but I still know the place you're talking about!

I’ve never spent more than $3,500/night at a hotel, some didn’t have a spa and a few didn’t even have room service if you can believe that.

But seriously, I’ve stayed in some pretty sketchy motels in LA, NJ, NY, etc. I remember one that was previously the front office so it was first floor and all glass including the door. But, even then I was more concerned about bed bugs than bad guys.

Folks, it's not about sketchy hotels. So don't be so sad. I usually keep the AR pistol in the front of the car on trips anyway, and I don't like leaving it in the car overnight, so it always gets taken into the hotel at night. Got me to thinking that might as well keep it at the ready overnight instead of just in the closet. Got to thinking that a shotgun might be a better weapon inside the hotel.

I've got just the thing

Quick to reload, compact and can cut through a wall in the event of a fire.

I too have taken a rifle into a hotel to ensure that it isn’t stolen. Even did it once in Canada.

Given the opportunity, I'm going to pick the long gun over a pistol any day. That said, I've stayed in some awfully sketchy hotels and never felt the need for anything more than my EDC pistol.

I usually travel with a short AR. Better in every metric than a shotgun IMO.

That said I have it with me for weirdness on the road and such moreso than the hotel itself. But honestly I feel totally comfortable with a handgun and realize my desire to travel with a long gun is a little gooberish.
