In next couple.of weeks will be traveling to Tennessee on vacation. I've been told that roadwork in WNC has delays over an our where bridge / tunnel work is. Any information would help. Just not wanting to be stuck in traffic for hour or more with almost 3 year old who is not patient on long car rides. I screen shot two work areas. The screen shot with Enka Village....just hop off and take 74 west for a while. That pretty much parallels I-40 along that stretch.

The other stoppage...yeah, you're pretty much screwed.

What part of TN is your ultimate desitnation? You could take the very scenic route 64 through Brevard and on into Cashiers, Highlands and points west ending up near Chatanooga. Or, when you hit Asheville, head north on 26 West through Johnson City, then back down towards Knoxville to link back up with I 40.

If I were you. I'd be taking 53 to 77 to 81 anyway. From gso to Kodiak TN right now shows 20 minutes faster.

From Denver to the same destination. Unless I have a reason to go 40. I still go 77 to 81

Waze is your friend. It has saved me some long delays many times. Yea, Google owns it and they will know exactly where you are.

I should have looked to see where he's coming FROM... @LeeMajors makes more sense than what I said. I was assuming a starting point close to Asheville.

The bridge work around exit 7, harmens den is completed. I live around exit 15, and only delays I get are from steering wheel holders taking the turns to fast

Sorry left out destination Pigeon Forge. We were looking st staying with family in Stuart V.A. and go 58 to 77 , to 81 , 40 then exit 407. 58 is under construction for new four lane. They been blasting for weeks. Thanks guys for all the information.

There is a dot sign in black mountain that lists time on 40 vs 26. 40 has been good for a while. But that Gorge can be trouble sometimes.

Big enough back up and I would go mt Sterling rd, which is dirt. Ot 74 to Cherokee then 441 to pigeon forge.

We just drove through there twice in the last three weeks. No issues for us.

I’m heading to Rolla, MO on Wednesday night. Plan on driving straight through. I don’t need any waits!
