Recently my check engine light came on in my 2016 Rubicon along with a "gascap" message on my odometer. So I pull the code and and find that it's a leak somewhere in the EVAP system (P0457). I had a spare gas cap and go ahead and switch it out to no avail. So I start figuring that a squirrel has been chewing on something underneath. It doesn't take me long to find the Fuel Vapor Hose from the fuel tank to the charcoal canister has been chewed all up. It was chewed through not far from the fuel tank end of the hose. PIA to reach that quick disconnect way up on top of the tank and squeeze that connector to get it off. Putting the new one took five seconds.

I just replaced the wiring to the sending unit on my old beater T100 pickup because the squirrels chewed it. A guy at work is dealing with this now on his 2020 Tacoma. It sat outside for a couple weeks without him driving it. He went to drive it and the dash lit up and it went into limp mode within a mile of his house. He had it towed to the dealership and just got a quote back for replacing the main wiring harness. $4k!!!

I'm working in the yard today and am taking out all the squirrels I have a shot at. So far I have only gotten 2.

I will have to get that looked at, I have that light on as well!

Another member had similar codes, no shop could fix it, he took it to one recommended here and the expert found the problem at the hoses above the fuel tank.

This is why my tree rats and I have an agreement.
If they stay back in the woods or up in the trees, they're fine. Touch grass, I shoot.
Destructive little devils.

I had a black Maine Coon cat named George who was a kitten when we moved here in 2005. He died of natural causes in December 2015. We never had a squirrel problem when he was alive. We've always had squirrels, but they never bothered us and stayed off the driveway when he was around. He killed a few of them while he was with us.

The cat we have now, Oreo, is a big baby. Although she's quite the hunter, she was born on a farm and was a barn cat her first couple of years, she only goes after birds, chipmunks, and mice. She ignores the squirrels unfortunately.

One chewed a big hole on the plastic gas line on my '86 F150. Was in a good place to repair and did not have to drop the tank.

I have 2 Boston Terriers. One is a squirrel killer and the other is a squirrel chaser. Unfortunately, the killer is 8 years old and seems to be slowing down as far as the squirrels go. They need to up their game and the older one needs to teach the younger one. He's not that smart so I don't have high hopes.
