Anyone have any recommendations for somewhere for me and the boy can go to wet a hook? He and I both have Mondays off and I think it would be fun for us to go and spend some quality time together. I personally don't have access to any private ponds anymore, so public places will have to work. Any species. I'd appreciate it if y'all have any ideas you wanna share.

Thanks!

What area are you in?

Not familiar with that area. Jordan Lake east of Pittsboro, NC has several public fishing piers and spots along the bank. That would be close to 1:30 - 1:45 minutes one way for you.

Be aware, Village Point is about fished out. Started in 2020 when covid hit and nobody had anywhere to go. They were keeping everything they caught. The state and Clemmons are not stocking it or keeping the feeder working much anymore.

Last time I fished over there was middle of May, nothing but little bitty cats and minnow sized brim. Most of my catfishing buds don't even go anymore.

YMMV

Seems to be a running theme. used to have a little park that I would hit for Crappie out in Pfafftown until the mexicans showed up with cast nets and started filling 5 gallon buckets.

Bummed I missed this thread until today.

Kernersville Lake Park had bank access when I lived in Winston.

Also, the Ararat River has some bank access off the greenway in downtown Mount Airy—great for throwing small.

Same for Salem Creek—you can park behind the Marketplace Cinemas and find some access points off the greenway. Used to throw Nikko helgrammites and little Rebel creek lures back there, standing on the rocks in the water… did a number in the spotted bass and sunfish.

If you don’t mind wet wading, the Dan River access point at the end of the road behind the Dan River Company was always super fishy. Smallmouth, spots, largies, tons of sunfish, and shiners galore. Wooly buggers in the fly or Ned-rigged helgrammites/Zman TRDs.

Lake Hampton over by Yadkinville has a couple piers. Buddy said the best fish he's seen caught there have been from the docks. My observation is everywhere public gets a lot of pressure, free unmonitored ones get trashed and folks that keep or at least kill everything they pull from the water.

Might have to get me a chest rig to fish there, but i'm willing to try it . Thanks!

Salem Lake rents Jon boats, used to be $5/day but that's probably gone up. Bring your own trolling motor / battery and go.

Tanglewood isn't too bad. Yadkin Memorial Park has a couple of piers but no bank fishing, and the young kids in charge are power hungry aholes.
