Has anyone here had a problem with cooking or overheating there red dot or other optics with the Ultimak gas tube replacement upper handguard for the AK-47? I've been having people in other places and gun shops say that you will cook the optic if you use the Ultimak for a optic mount after 30rds or so but that sounds a little extreme to me but I can see if you are running a 75rd drum mag wide open and getting the optic hot but 30rds at regular semi auto rates shouldn't do that right?

Also does anyone know if you can still get the m89 rail for putting a side mount optic on a underfolder AK-47? I was supposed to be getting one for making some copies of at my shop but I don't know if it will still be coming or not because the guy that is supposed to be getting it for me to make some more of hasn't heard back from the person who has one. So if anyone has one or knows where I can get one I will buy it and also make you a copy of it for helping me with finding one. I'm trying to get one to make a good bit of them for anyone else that might need one in the future because I have been told they stopped making them in the 80s but I don't know for sure. Here's a picture of the part I'm looking for. Thanks Screenshot_20230116-230736.png

If even a handful of optics died after a single mag's worth of ammo down the pipe, I highly doubt Ultimak would still be in business. I think some of the myths about these things basically boiling red dots are internet lore, with very little anecdotal evidence to back it up. Both of my Ultimak-equipped AKs (one 7.62x39 and one 5.56 gun) have been problem-free with the same budget Primary Arms red dots, over a few years and a few thousand rounds apiece.

As for that M89, besides the exceptional challenge of actually finding one, I believe those rails are proprietary for Yugoslavian ZRAK scopes and that specific style mount. So even if you are able to find a rail and install it properly, you're still fully limited in your optic options. That, and you'll still have to remove the optic ever time you want to fold the stock. If you're looking for a more rearward mount and don't want to pony up for a TWS dog leg, I'd look into AK Master Mount rails - easy to install and not permanent. A Master Mount plus a side mount will give you a ton of optic options. You can also use a rear sight leaf rail like an Attero.

I was considering a master mount rail for my underfolder but the problem I'm having is the clearance is there to slide the side mount on the rail because of the swivel or hinge which ever you want to call it for the underfolder stock. The only thing I can think to do to make it work is to grind down the right side of the mount and slide it on from the left side of the rail but I don't know if that will keep the mount from moving or not and also might compromise the structural integrity of the mount?

As far as the Ultimak goes I fully agree with you on that and I have not seen one video on YouTube or anything else showing a red dot sight burning up because of the Ultimak getting too hot. I'm planning on getting a Ultimak and TWS dog leg dust cover for the underfolder AK-47 and go that route with it but I have a few mounts that will fit a m89 rail and a guy online put it on his wasr10 underfolder and with it sitting a little bit higher on the receiver and the bottom of the plate being thinner than the rail he was able to still use the underfolder stock with it installed and it looks good in the picture. Plus I have a machine shop that I can use to tweek or modify any mount to fit it, but I will have to get the m89 rail to get the exact measurements of it to get everything machined to the right depth and thickness and everything else for it to be done right.

I haven't done more than a couple mag dumps in a row with my Ultimak equipped M92 it gets real hot but the PA optic hasn't cared.

I recently bought the parts to have a Draco and a M92 converted to underfolders when the stamps come back. I'll probably go with Ultimak rails on both. I don't feel like SBRs really need magnified optics for what I use them for (blasting stuff at the range and the occasional match with shots at 150 yards and less). On the other hand I eventually sold my WASR-10 Underfolder and replaced it with a ZPAP M70 because I didn't like being limited to a red dot on the WASR. I have a Primary Arms 3x Micro on an AK Master Mount on the ZPAP and I like that a lot better shooting at targets 200 plus yards away.

FWIW, I had a Holosun red dot on the WASR mounted with an Ultimak and never had any issues "cooking" the dot.
