Unclaimed money

I found my dad had two listings for NY State, he did not want to bother with it, my sister did the online claim for him, he got two checks totaling $13,800!!! It was from MetLife shares when they converted to a stock company from a mutual company. They moved and the papers never got forwarded to their home in NJ.
You never know, if he waited another year, it would have went to NYS.

This was back in 2005, my sister told my dad you should give James some of the money for finding it,
"NO, I'm putting all of it in the bank"! I did not need the extra cash.

Yeah, I've found some lost money there a couple of years ago. Nice surprise.

I went on and it showed something from Citibank. Says greater than $50. Can’t imagine what it would be as I’ve only had a couple credit cards with them over the years. Oh well, filled out the form so we will see. Thanks!

I've done this kind of search before. What with moving around with the Navy for 20 years, it turned out I had a couple claims in some different states. Submitted the requests and checks showed up not long afterwards.

It wasn't much...but it was mine, and that's what counted.

The funds can also be from rebate or any type of a check made out to you, it goes to abandoned property if not cashed in time.
That is why most rebate checks 'pay to order of John Browning' or BEARER.
Can also be escrow funds or unclaimed deposits for apartment rentals.

I know it's legit but it always reminds me of those sting operations that send out letters to people, saying they won a new tv and then are busted when they show up to claim it lol.

2 under $50, one $50 or greater - all from an old, old address.

Printed the forms - let's see what we got...

Thanks for posting OP.

Incidentally, unclaimed.org will let you search other states.

My sister in law shows a less than $50. Told her and she said that they did this for my FIL about 10 years ago and found one for him in NY. Sent in paperwork and in about 2 months he got a $45 bill from NY. Said it was fees for an inheritance he got when he was 18
