They have had pilot shortages for years. Pilots want to fly, not do 'everything else'. There should be a strictly flying track.

Loyd Austin, Sec of Defense, diversity hire has permanently damaged the whole military. He is a racist POS. His comments against white service members shows how far this country has fallen. Recruitment is down 40% and they blame it on unfit for duty but the teuth is he and Sippy Cup Joe have destroyed Patriotism in two short years. Honestly it was done in 6 months.

"Unfit for duty" is definitely part of the problem with effective recruitment (as we've discussed ad nauseum). But spot on about his 'leadership' and failed policies.

So, if the decline in retention and recruitment continues, how long till the US military goes conscript?

My SWAG is that before they go to a draft they will punt some of the missions to the reserve and guard. They do now, they'll just punt more.
I think they (the NCA and congress) needs to figure out what exactly the goals and missions are and set for that. Right now aside from the INDOPAC theater it doesn't really seem they have much cohesive thought.

China's tech doesn't scare me much. Most of it--what they have--is reverse engineered, and to a point. Our Navy and Marine Corps is more robust. It doesn't mean they couldn't win, though.

eh, pilot shortages have been around for a long time. when i was in they were offering up to i think 100k to retain pilots.
most get their hours and carts needed, and then get out as the money is better with slightly less BS.
