Today was more eventful than I would have liked. Despite the attempts to alleviate the post lumbar spinal headache, nothing worked. The doctors decided the only option at this point was to do the epidural blood patch. The anesthesiologist came and talked to us yesterday and scheduled the procedure for this morning. They came and got us around 9:30. I got sent to the waiting room at 10:30 and they were back to get me at 11. Everything went fine and he just had to lay flat for a little bit to give it time to work. We got back to his room around 12:30 and he could tell a huge difference. His back hurt a little, but they warned him ahead of time that he would be trading the headache for a backache. He was able to eat a little and we were just taking it easy this afternoon. That all changed around 3:00. Jerek had a seizure. It was very scary. Luckily I knew what to do and was able to stay calm. The nurses said it lasted about 5 minutes, and he was able to come out of it on his own. The doctors called the neurologist and he came right down. They examined Jerek and didn’t find any lasting effects from the seizure. The next issue to solve was what caused it. They don’t think it was a result of the blood patch. He went for a CT scan, which showed nothing bad. The next step is an MRI, which will be done some time tonight, well, middle of the night. They are hoping it was a one-time event and don’t expect to find anything on the MRI. He was very tired and weak afterwards. He said his shoulders hurt really badly, which the doctors say is from him tensing up during the seizure. It may take a few days for this pain/soreness to go away. He also bit his tongue. Aside from that, he has been fine this evening. He is supposed to get chemo tomorrow but the doctors want to see what the MRI shows first. They also think he needs a day to recuperate, so they are planning to bump his chemo to Wednesday this week. He finally fell asleep, so fingers crossed he can get some decent rest tonight. As always, please continue to pray for him. He is responding well to the chemo treatments and his counts are looking good.
