Today ended up being a better day. Jerek was already scheduled to have chemo and a lumbar puncture today. The doctor wanted to keep that on the schedule for today since this was his last treatment in this period. He will now get a much needed 1-2 week break from chemo in order for his counts to recover. He already had a pretty severe headache before the lumbar puncture. They did a caffeine IV drip and increased fluids prior to the lumbar puncture. Everything went well.

They said he had extra fluid today and ended up taking more than normal. The radiologist told him that this could be contributing to the headache. They did a nasal swab to test for flu or any other upper respiratory infection. He was negative for all of these. He switched nausea meds today since Zofran can cause headaches and also finally took the pain medicine for the headache. I’m not sure if there was a single factor or a combination of factors, but the headache did improve this evening. He still didn’t have an appetite today but did drink another ensure tonight. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.

His temp stayed down until around 5. It was 100.5. Not as bad as it had been, but still a fever. This required more Tylenol and more blood cultures. The CNA just came by and it is 98.6 right now. This is awesome because he can actually sleep tonight. They will not be back to bug him until 4:30am when they have to do labs and give him the next dose of antibiotics. The doctor said today was the last day for this antibiotic. If he is still having fevers tomorrow, they will likely try a new antibiotic. If he does not have a fever tomorrow, they will most likely keep him on the one he is currently on. Praying the fever does not come back, the headache fully subsides, and that we are on the road to going home.

Prayers that the fever stays down and continued recovery. Hang in there! Thanks for keeping us updated!

Praying for continuing good news.

Thanks for leting us know of the improvement! May that trend continue to get him home & back to full health.
