This stuff really sucks.
Two sheriffs showed up here about six months ago, looking for a previous occupant.

There was no gun play.

With the resources the

US Marshal's Service

have, this is uncalled for. They screw up this bad but will protect and serve the shit out of you.

The homeowners should be very thankful that they were not home.

I don’t know how this stuff happens. Years ago I worked with agencies on something I suppose we’d call residential interdiction, and the red tape was overwhelming. It took a week of collecting evidence to satisfy the judges that we had the right house, and it took a team of lawyers to confirm that we typed the address correctly on the form. This was all no-knock felony stuff, but the level of review for apprehension of a fugitive shouldn’t be that much lower.

What a joke. All that Gov money and that level of intelligence at a high level. 3 years gone and they didn't even bother to look property or dmv records.

I can only imagine how that could have ended very poorly.

I can only Imagine what would have happened if you would have looked out your window and seen that "Mortimer" coming around the back of your house.

News at Noon....Local Man being held for defending his home against armed invaders...investigation continues....OR
Man with an arsenal in his home shoots several US Deputy Marshalls in an ambush.
You pick according to Your news source.

This is the biggest BS article I've seen for a while. The officers went looking for a bad guy. They went to address and didn't bust down doors or threaten to do anything because no one was home. Left peacefully with nothing bothered. OMG those bastards.

I commend the Marshalls for actually trying to run down all leads.

I knew a guy once that was picked up by Greensboro Police on a murder charge. They were at the wrong house. Guy spent two days in jail before they figured it out. Needless to say, he was not happy.

I was collared for felony larceny of a vehicle (NC doesn't have grand theft auto statute). They had the wrong guy. Picked up, arrested, questioned, let go. Told to not skip town. A couple days later found out that it was all a mistake. The cops were like "LOLZ, no harm, no foul." Me, I was pissed.

But, their resources!

Please...PLEASE do NOT take this as an insult. I'm going to ask you a question that you might not be able to answer because of all the things you see daily.

If you had NO LE association NONE...and looked out Your door and saw armed men skulking around in your yard. What would you do?

Id prep for an invasion and be ready to protect my property. Lots of things happening with people dressing up like police or the like so i would not be taking any chances. Guns gear and extra loaded mags a plenty. Its about to GET REAL.

I appreciate your input but my Pard @Cowboy is who I really wanted to hear back from. I am hoping he is taking time to really think about this from the civillian side and get back to me. It's gonna be difficult for him....I KNOW the things LEs are confronted with daily.

Hell, it makes me angry when I discover utility locators have been on my property without permission or notice. @Cowboy is correct in that this time turned out better than expected, which is a sad state in and of itself, in that they went away without destroying or killing anything. That being said, I don't think it is acceptable for anyone, including under the claim of law enforcement, to trespass on someone's property in this manner. Which brings me to the (legal) question of, what would they have done had the property been fenced, gated, or even marked No Trespassing, indicating that the owner is expressly exerting their claim of privacy, meaning the cops can't claim they were in some sort of public-ish space.

The problem I have with this (well, one problem of several):

They look like they are dressed up for the local 2gun match. Nothing about what they are wearing says "professional law enforcement". And I know and am related to many professional leos.
Do they dress up in front of a mirror and take selfies?

I consider myself fairly educated on stuff, and these dudes look exactly like I would expect two thugs dressed for a home invasion robbery would look like. They don't look like cops. I mean, WTH?

100% . That is just what I told my wife.
If the homeowners had been home, and did anything other than be total sheep, the story would have had a very different outcome.

It wasn't the wrong house. It was the correct house. It appears that the wanted person had lived there at some point. The fact that the homeowner says that the wanted person hasn't been there means very little - as that's what almost all will say as the wanted person is hiding in the closet. This house could now be occupied by family of the wanted person and there may be info that the wanted person was seen around there recently - we just don't know by the article. IF the Marshal's had info that he may have been there - what are they supposed to do? The Marshals got there, no one home, left. I could be wrong, but believe that's what we pay them to do. If they kicked in doors, cursed at homeowners, pointed guns at homeowners that are obviously not the wanted person - to me that would be a very different story.

Another question; what is he wanted for? If this fugitive raped one of your family members and escaped, would you want the Marshals to check all leads - or no?

Wait for them to leave and stop their car. If its not an immediate issue of a hostage or anything of the like you shouldn't be kicking doors. Clearing houses is almost always a dumb idea.

Oh, @NKD ... you have a MUCH higher class of thugs in Raleigh than we do. Top pic caucasian, finger straight and off the trigger, hell, even his boots are polished. He screams "fed." In Durham I would expect Tay-Tay and Skillet and their Hi-Points.

OK. As long as it's white dude with straight finger we all good then.

Well let's be clear about something. This wasn't your local PD being all Tommy badass. This was the US Marshall's that from my experience do not go looking for people who are small time. This wasn't a person who missed court on a speeding ticket in other words. Generally if the Marshall's are involved and using that kind of fire power they are looking for a bad guy. Now that said they simply went and looked at a house that the subject could have possibly been at without knowing running down leads. They didn't go over board with anyone or anything. What they did do in hindsight that would have been productive is left a phone number for the people to call. Which they may have done on paper but the people called after seeing the video and they were informed over the phone it seems. While I see people think this was overboard on resources and I may have been worried about people outside with guns as well. If they start knocking on the door instead of kicking it in I'm not going to be as concerned. This home owner is simply full of sha and wanting to give these Marshall's a bad name and get their 15 minutes.

Thanks...THIS is what I was looking for from the LE side.....can YOU express an opinion from what YOU might have done from the civillian side?

But it WAS the wrong house: it had been sold since the bad guy had lived there. I know the author of the article wrote it in such a way to paint a specific picture, but I am curious if the LEOs did their due diligence to determine the likelihood the bad guy would go back to a house he had not been to in years. Seems like pretty easy intel to figure out.

How would I react if the cops came here looking for the original owner, weapons out? I'd be hella pissed off.

So they walked through people's yards looking like this? I see someone like this in my back yard I'm shooting asap.

Thanks again for the LE side...am I to assume you have no opinion from the civillian side...like say....a member from CFF looking out and seeing this.

So, some here would say, well they all have drop leg holsters so they are just LE making sure I'm safe.

I guess I am really trying to see if LE folks can see any situation through civillian eyes. I've gotten great LE answers...just not the question I asked.
I've ridden thousands of miles in S.C.H.P cars in night and day shifts. Gone with County Deputies on Narcotics patrols and ridden with a Magistrate on Christmas Eve to serve a warrant that was personal to me. We have had at least a hundred through here shooting.
I want to know what they would think would be the proper response from one of US if we looked out and saw this.

Lol, just like that. They'll keep the teams, the helicopters, the dogs, the submarine on indefinite standby in case the bad guy happens to come out of the house. Obviously money, overtime, your tax $ is of no concern. There are people who make a living doing these things - then there are those who can watch TV and think they know better.

To make this clear as to my LE attraction on this...I have a U.S. Marshall cap with a badge attached. It was given to me by a U.S. Marshall Deputy that spent the better part of a day here. We shot, we talked, we ate...we had a grand time. He kindly gave me the hat and badge when he left. I am Not anti LE...This just looks like a situation that is set up for people to Die.

If you think that's an issue maybe you got the wrong Damn house and need to go away

I do not agree. This was the house he used to live in. WHO says he wasn't there in years? We have ZERO clue as to the intel that the Marshal's had. That could be his aunt's house now, or a friend of the family, etc. Way too many unknowns for people to pass judgments on it, in my opinion.
