I know rap isn't the #1 choice in music on this forum...
But Ice Cube's GANGSTA RAP MADE ME DO IT was way out ahead of its time. There was some solid satire in it, decent predictions of how things would go, and a nugget of wisdom hidden in there.
So i guess it's not shocking that people started giving him the uncle tom treatment when he said there was a conversation to be had with trump and republicans about how to do some things better and how to get his community in a better place. Dems hate it when black folks go off the plantation.

click for some lyrics that demonstrate my point, tried to clean them up a bit...
So if I act like a pimp
Ain't nothin' to it, gangsta rap made me do it
If I call you a nappy headed h**
Ain't nothin' to it, gangsta rap made me do it
If I shoot up your college
Ain't nothin' to it, gangsta rap made me do it
If I rob you of knowledge
Ain't nothin' to it, gangsta rap made me do it
Thank God when I bless the mic
You finally get to hear the s*** that you like
A n**** talkin' 'bout real life
So you can try to get this shit right
Use your brain, not your back
Use your brain, not a gat

It's a party, not a jack
Don't be scared of them people
Walk up in there and show them that you equal
And don't be material, a n**** grew up on milk and cereal

I never forgot Van Ness and imperial
Look at my life, Ice Cube is a miracle
It could be you if you was this lyrical
It could be her if she was this spiritual

'Cause me and Allah go back like cronies
I ain't got to be fake 'cause he is my homie

Some of the bleeding hearts are arguing that she's misinterpreting things because it "doesn't" reduce sentences....
Seems the bill would take it from a mandatory life (min 30 years) down to maximum of life, min not specified.
Given how things are going, I think we could expect to see a drive-by conviction busted down to 2yrs probation with a pinkie swear not to do more bad stuff...

Thanks for posting that. I see nothing wrong with those aggravating factors. Seems like the reps should be more concerned with reducing drive-bys, not the punishment for them.

I could see if they was concerned about all occupants of the vehicle, including those not shooting, being charged the same, but it doesnā€™t sound like thatā€™s the case.

looks like commiefornia has infected the entire west coast.
Drive bys are a special kind of murder, assualt as they are cowards who will not face anyone and don't care about others.
Drive by shootings should be a life sentence if you ask me. Capital punishment would be better, both shooter and driver.

More and more of this ludicrous behavior from our law makers is on the horizon. Pretty soon a certain segment of society will not be held responsible for anything they do.

Go back 100 years and look at bills introduced in state legislatures that donā€™t pass, there have always been nutty members. Today we hear about them when in the past they were really only known to the folks involved.

Not sure what segment of society youā€™re referring to, but there sure are a lot of black folks in prison.

What's more premeditated than driving and looking for someone to shoot?

Now before anyone starts the 'but that's the same as when you are carrying'. I say BS on that. One little item that is different...

The victim is not a threat to the shooter in 99.9% of drive by shootings.

The idea is a certain race commits the majority of drive-bys? Does that make Washington Democrats racist?

If I was black living in that state I would be offended to have such a stigma attached to me.

Tarra Denelle Simmons[1] (born 1977)[2] is an American politician, lawyer, and civil rights activist for criminal justice reform.[3]

In 2011 Simmons was sentenced to 30 months in prison for theft and drug crimes.[4] In 2017, she graduated from Seattle University School of Law with honors. After law school, she was not allowed to sit for the Washington State bar exam due to her status as a former convicted felon, thus she challenged the Washington State Bar Association rules in the Washington State Supreme Court and won with the court unanimously ruling in her favor. She was later sworn in as an attorney in the State of Washington on June 16, 2018.[5]. Simmons is the executive director for a nonprofit focused on assisting those that are formerly incarcerated, known as the Civil Survival Project.

The more you know.....

ā€œRacial equityā€ is based on the idea that if one group is convicted disproportionately, then the law was crafted by privileged white men to oppress the blacks. In Virginia last year, when the Dums took over the Legislature, they passed a bill that prevented cops from using a long list of offenses as reason to pull a car overā€”driving without headlights for example. Cops said that (for reasons perhaps someone on here can explain), drunks often drive without headlights, and blacks were getting more DWIā€™s than whites, so the law was racist and had to be changed.

George Soros has a nationwide effort going to replace DAā€™s with more activist, woke ones. Wake DA Lauren Freeman is being primaried by a guy that wants to eliminate things like tail lights as a reason for stopping. Cops stop for tail lights, smell weed, car gets searched and they find felon with gun, etc. The DA wannabe says we shouldnā€™t be harassing the poor felon. (I donā€™t know if heā€™s getting Soros money, but it is part of a national trend).

I saw a group of fine young men riding their bicycles through all lanes of a busy intersection today, and not much later we saw a group of other fine somewhat less-young men riding their dirtbikes and quads doing tricks through all lanes of a very busy road.
My wife asked why nothing was being done...
I asked her who's going to do anything? the cops who aren't allowed to chase? they can't identify them anyway because none of the vehicles were plated, and everybody was wearing masks. The kids now this, and they exploit it.
After all... anybody else remember when this happened?

I have grown to expect better from you....................................................really.......I think you're a pretty savvy guy....
and I think youā€˜re pretty much right about that. I do keep hearing Capt Jack Sparrow saying ā€œsavvy?ā€ in my head, hopefully it passes.

A lot of black folks in prison? You donā€™t say. Wonder why. Surely not because they are 13 percent of the population and murder at a higher rate than all the other groups together. And here is the real kicker. They walk in to a courtroom almost every time seeking free legal representation because itā€™s FREE. And what do you get for a FREE state appointed $50 per hour lawyer? Not a damn thing and zero effort. You get a plea bargain in the third year.

So Iā€™ll sum it up- donā€™t make murder your cultural habit and free ainā€™t so good. The End.

Nope, don't remember, and can't read about it due to their pay wall.

I didnā€˜t make my point very well, but you get it. Itā€™s a nurture vs nature thing. Certain members of poor urban communities have learned this behavior, it has nothing to do with their genetics, it has become a part of their culture. Upper and middle class black people are as upset, offended and concerned about this as you or I. Of course itā€™s hugely complicated by people making money or gaining celebrity from the situation, people preying on the folks that claim to help; itā€™s not everyone, but enough.

Policing wonā€™t change the culture, nor will incarceration. My brother once suggested that it would be more effective to replace the surgeon generalā€™s warning on tobacco products with a ststement that nicotine shrinks your dick or boobs, that youth arenā€™t motivated by the risk of long term illness or death. Members of the communities weā€™re discussing arenā€™t afraid of police or incarceration.

The fix probably involves huge corporate tax breaks to create entry level opportunities. This has the benefit of undercutting the urban workforce in China which will create massive societal problems for them.

Just one guys opinions.

Here's what mystefies me about this. The reason behind eliminating the up-charge for shooting from a car is that it is said to unreasonably target young black men. But wait.... The law has been applied once since it was passed. Once, in 25 years. Once is not a statistically broad set. Where is the justification to say this is imprisoning one group over others when it's been used once in 25 years?

This is clearly symbolism over substance.

oops
sorry

"A judge told former Michigan State Police trooper Mark Bessner on Monday that people like him have caused ā€œthe distrust of police officers that plagues our community in Detroit, the state of Michigan and throughout the country.ā€

Then she sentenced Bessner to 5 to 15 years in prison for the death of 15-year-old Damon Grimes.

The Detroit teen was driving his ATVin August 2017 on the cityā€™s east side when Bessner ā€” a passenger in a moving patrol car ā€” fired his Taser at the teen during a chase. Grimes slammed into the back of a parked truck and died soon after from his injuries."

Not tax breaks but paying wages by the government is already being done for corporations. I may be mistaken but Tyson has used a program for hiring felons. But they use them for temp hiring and rehire when the time expires. Then they go back to the house when they get a reason for firing. In my opinion when you do your time you should not be further punished for life.

I agree with most of what you said. You are spot on with there being lunatic bills introduced for years, coming to light due to the digital era. Attorneys have built a kingdom off crime, divorce, and family estate squabbles. The latest murder trial local to me took 5 years to reach a verdict. In the meantime our jail has doubled in size, detention employees doubled in size, and court rooms doubled in numbers. What hasnā€™t occurred is a limit on time to reach conclusion.

I normally donā€™t look for articles about bills being introduced. Any nut can get into a political office. More now than ever. There will always be radical bills introduced. Doesnā€™t mean they will pass. Even the Mafia didnā€™t consider someone a real member until you wacked someone. They were gansta as well. Pretty sure they were well known for drive by shooters for decades. No laws were introduced for Sicilians and Italians to decriminalize crimes.

This is brilliant.
I'm an educated man with a college degree...and even If I saw this label it would be compelling to me.
Lol
