Bought a couple of Wallhangers the other day. Trying to find more info on the one on the right. It's marked Hanover Arms which is pretty common. What's odd is the barrel locking mechanism. The lever underneath the barrel pivots to the right to allow he barrels to tilt forward. Any one seen that style before?

Yes, it's called and under lever. Common on a lot of Belgian guns, and other European models. I've never seen on tight, and working correctly; mostly just seen them floppy and not doing a good job holding things together.

What's the hammergun? Looks like the forend was replaced. What makes it a wallhanger?

Yeah, the under lever is definitely floppy. I hadn't seen one before but maybe that's why. Not a good design IMO.

The other one cleaned up well. Belgian proof marks put it pre-1924. It is all original and fairly tight. I don't believe it's damascus steel but I'm still calling it a wallhanger 'cause I'm chicken to shoot it.

If it’s tight, not excessively pitted, it might be perfectly fine to shoot low pressure stuff in it. You could get the barrel wall thickness measured for added due diligence. Hammerguns are fun to shoot.

For the old barrels, you want lower pressure shells, around 7000psi or less. For the old stocks, you want lower recoil because old oil soaked stock heads get soft. 1100fps or less works.

Herter’s make a low recoil 7/8 oz 12ga load that would be perfect. Fiocchi has a training load would work, Winchester AA Low Noise Low Recoiled can sometimes be found.

You might have a shooter with the hammergun.

Nice. I had an old girlfriends dad give me and Old double hammer gun a long time ago. The stock was broken but it was tight and shootable. I had a new stock and forearm made and shot it a few times and put it away in the back of my gun safe. Many years go by, and in 2016, I was visiting her mom. We were talking about her pecan trees and she said the squirrels get the nuts, and she used to shoot them with an old double barrel. She said she had one that wasn’t dead yet and she whacked him over the head and broke the stock. She said she never knew what happened to that old gun. I told her I knew exactly where that gun was, in my gun safe. She said my old GF had a son that was into guns and would I consider selling it , that he would appreciate it as it had been his grandfathers gun. I told her that I’d think about it. I did and decided that he would appreciate it more than I would and I would just give him the gun. I went over to their house prior to Christmas and showed him the gun. Told him how to care for it, what to shoot in it, and then told him it was his. He was thankful. It went above the mantle and the old GF was crying. And people say I don’t have a heart. I love old DB Rabbit ear guns!

Cool deal- I'll definitely think about shooting it. I need to find a butt cap for it first. That's the only thing missing. I'll probably just order an oversize one and shape to fit.
