I carry a Spyderco ParaMilitary 2 most days. I'm wanting a Benchmade to carry also. I've owned several models but am interested in a particular few. I'd like your thoughts and opinions on them as well as other models. Here are the ones I'm currently interested in.

    Benchmade 810 Contego

    Benchmade 940 Osborne

    Benchmade 950 Rift

Feel free to give me your opinions on other Spydercos as well and on Emersons. Thanks.

Depending on you “every day” application(s) I’d say also check out Zero Tolerance. For a tank look at the Hinderer 0566 assisted opening group. For a more “sleek and refined” check out the Sinkevich 0450 KVT flipper group. Zero Tolerance is American made, lifetime warranty and good value ... not cheap but great steel and craftsmanship for Benchmade or under priced.

Had an Osbourne. Good knife. I let it go as it just wasn't for me.

My favorite has been the CLA auto. Perfect pocket knife!

Can't support that company or Anthony Marfione because of all the bitching, whining, crying and lawsuits they did over a design they 100% stole from Zero Tolerance/KAI because KAI decided to make a bargain version of their own knife (Kershaw Natrix). Microtech & Marfione acted like entitled left wing douchebags with their actions. Their little feelings got butt hurt when what they did was returned in kind.

I know that lots of you are taking a stand on principal, but I’ve been carrying a Benchmade 705 since they were first released, it is a great little everyday knife.

    Microtech makes some nice autos.

im no knife guru and this is only my experience/opinion.... i got semi into knives for a while and spent countless hours scouring the forums and knife sites looking for the right blade for me. i first got a lower level kershaw fatback(17$ when i got it new) to see how i liked it. it was a nice knife with a decent action and a surprisingly sharp blade, but the spring assist broke 2 weeks into owning it, granted i was popping that thing open and closed every other minute:rolleyes:. i quickly learned that id need a nicer quality knife if i was going to play with it so much so i decided on benchmade. i had read all the stories of how nice they were and how their quality was so good. i bought 2, the barrage and the mini loco. set me back 375$. the barrage came with a plastic handle that felt as cheap as the kershaw if not cheaper. the steel was nice but i dropped it one time in the parking lot and the blade flung open and chipped(yes i know they have a safety, obviously i did not have that engaged)....i sold it. the mini loco was a really nice looking knife and i got one of the first production run(its stamped on the blade) but after playing with the axis lock for about a week the blade got really loose. i contacted guys on the knife forum and they said i should tighten the screw that holds the blade... but not too tight or the blade wont come out smooth. so i cant loctite it in or it wont open right. basically they said i have to leave it slightly loose to function smooth. problem with that is it then becomes too loose after a week of normal use. while i like the knife in terms of looks and steel. i would never buy another one for the price. long story longer, i bought a kershaw knockout on sale for 49$ and have been very pleased with the outcome. while not the same steel, it cuts everything i need just fine and it has become my favorite of all my knives. i encourage you to start with something cheaper with good reviews and see how you like it before dropping 100-400 (ie gun money) on a knife that has a butterfly logo. all that said, i wish you best of luck with your search.ymmv

Never owned the other 2 but I wasn’t a big fan of the 940. It was pretty but too delicate if you actually need a knife for more than opening boxes. After trying several different models I realized the PM2 was the best for me and picked up a M4 PM2. Of the benchmades I tried, the Griptilian 550-1 with CPM-20CV and the spydie-hole was my favorite.

I have never heard anyone call a 940 delicate. On the other hand I have saw broken several times (and broken one myself) the last 1/3rd of the blade on a PM2. Guess which company will replace the blade and fix the knife for a small sum of money. I'll give you a hint, it's the one without the opening hole in the blade.

Lol, I’ve heard they’ll cut your guns up for free too if you send them in. If you pay them to replace the blade, are your chances of getting an even grind better than what you get out of the box?

Seriously, if you manage to break 1/3 of any knife off, you should give your knifes to someone that understands what a pry bar is. Personally I use a knife for cutting things instead of prying things or unscrewing things so I’m not worried about breaking a blade and needing a replacement regardless of brand. If something should happen to one of my Spydercos like chipping the blade (something I have done with a Delica and an old mini-grip) hitting hidden screws, wires, etc) then Spyderco will reprofile the blade.

First of all dont assume things about people you dont know or you'll just prove that you're the first three letters in assumption. My knives are cutting tools not pry bars.

My PM2 blade broke cutting 1/4" wood dowel rod flush on a wooden countertop. Spyderco could care less. Benchmade would have fixed that free of charge. Spyderco won't sell you spare parts much less a replace a blade. And for the record I am a Spyderco fan, owner and user of many of their products. Their attitude towards customers sucks though!

Call me an ass if you want but if someone manages to break 1/3 of a good 3 1/2” S30V or better blade then they were doing something wrong or they had a fake. Otherwise Spyderco would have replaced it for a manufacturing defect. 1/8” of the tip breaking off? Ok that’s possible but then they’d reprofile. Over an inch under correct use? Not happening. There’s a reason that the PM2 is consistently rated one of the best tough use folders and it’s not because 1/3 of the blade snaps off for no reason.
