Yesterday I pulled into the Burger King in Newton. Employees said only the drive thru is open (again). Two cars waiting at the speaker. Two employees over at the comveneince store where I just got gas. Both taking it easy slurping Freezies. Line never moved for 18 minutes. Not one car. Managed to get out of line and drove 2 miles to Newton KFC. 5 cars in line. Line did not move even one car for 19 minutes. Squeezed out of line and left.

Went to El Paso Mexican restaurant where only Mexicans work. Got chips in 2 minutes. Beer in 1 minute. Food came in 15. People wonder why their business is failing and we hire hispanics. It’s because hispanics will work but Americans could care less. Unless it’s Chic Fil A I’m done with these idiot fast food places.

subsidize what you want to encourage and tax what you want to discourage

A lot of fast food place only have just enough people working to do the job, they close for 1/2 to 1 hours and everybody takes there break together. They don't have enough people to take rotating breaks.

Had a similar experience last week at an Arby's. The drive through line simply did not move. Took over 20 minutes for a couple of cars. I thought I had left with plenty of time to grab a sandwich and make it back to the office to eat before a meeting. Not quite.

Sounds Exactly like trying to eat in Stanly Co.

Most of the fast food chains I've gone to the last six months around here have seemed to step up their game. Friendly, cleanish, and fairly quick.

Notable exceptions: Subway - out of it, almost regardless what you order they lack something, if you have a coupon they're definitely out of it. Bojangles - they probably have it, but they haven't bothered to get it from the freezer, and apparently it's my fault.

One thing I have noticed too. The “quality” of how the food is prepared at all the fast food restaurants I frequent has declined consistently.

With the possible exception of McDonald's.

*dons flame suit*

With the possible exception of McDonald's.
I order on the app (which frequently has “deals” I can use). You skip the drive thru, skip paying (charged to your card inside the app) and they bring the food to your car.

I may have mentioned this a few weeks ago, dont know.
But a BK story:
Me and the lady wanted a burger and fries after shopping for my wedding suit, we headed over to BK as it was close by.
It was just after 12/noon.
We go in, looking at the menu, lady says something along the lines of "What would you like" or "Know what you want?"
And as my gf is looking at the menu I said, "I dont know why youre looking, you always get a whopper jr with cheese"
At that point the employee says, "Oh, we dont have lunch yet, still serving breakfast"
I commented that it was after noon
She said they just got in 30 minutes before.
And then the manager said it'd be 30-35 before any burgers would be ready.

Ok, well, can you change the menu so we can see what you have? (was already displaying the lunch/dinner menu)
"No, cant change it, want me to tell you what we have?"

Ridiculous. But we're seeing a lot of that at FF places, they just dont have good workers and no one good wants to work there.

Went to Hardees couple week ago and the dining floor was so sticky it was making noises like I was walking on tape. Trash all over the floor. 75 to 80 year woman working the counter. Bless her for still being a contribution to the workforce.

You must be old cause you remember places called 'fast food' drive-ins. Today those places are food sellers only. There is nothing fast about them

I hear you man. I'm ready for those robots we've all been promised will take the jobs. Then maybe I'll be able to stop in a Wendy's or a Bojangles again.

Even with all this going on, somehow Cookout still gets it done.

Best regular service ever is at our local Asian Dimsum restaurant. Yeah, I know the food jokes but if it is cat it comes out hot and cooked nicely plus tastes good. The wait staff are attentive but do not hover around. They are pleasant and smile … makes the great food even better. There was a Mexican restaurant pre-COVID in Mebane, La Fiesta (same exit as Tanger Outlet), that had the same type service as described in the OP and damn good food (their French Fries were the best for some reason). It was clean and neat … polite staff … and service with a smile! Funny thing is the communication could be a little rough with some off the staff but things get done easy and quick!

Funniest service is a Taco roach coach … the two guys have mariachi music playing and sing while they take care of customers and serve great food. While not the restaurant type service … they always give their customers a show and smile.

We already knew this...

...but will Newton ever have a Chik-fil-A?
Actually only Birger King and Taco Bell are in Newton proper. The two other mentioned are seconds out of city limits. There will never be a Chik Fil A in Newton.

We have a Dairy O in Archdale. That place is putting a hurting on all the other fast food places around here. I guess they pay more or their expectations are higher. If it gets busy they put order takers outside and pay on the spot. They run two lines if cars outside and keep them moving. If you go inside and order you can see they have at least 10 people working. They are not standing around talking either. There is another one in Kville and it operates the same way. It is like Chick-fil-A on steroids.

Chickfila closed a few months ago to remodel here in the Quay, so now they’ll have two drive thru lines instead of one. They could handle the business, but man those places get slammed. All of them. I don’t know how they keep enough food delivered to them to crank out as many bird sammiches as they sell.

After that happens and your back in the drive thru those same lazy assbag kids will be knocking on your window asking for change…
“like heeeey maaaaun, can you help me out maaaun, I like used to work here maaaaun, like now I don’t maaaaaaun”
“like robots, like took my job maaaaun”…🤣🤣🤣🤣

The two in Hickory never shutdown for that work. All done at night and on Sunday. One Sunday I was driving by and there must have been 20 contractor trucks.

I am a local delivery truck driver and there have been days it’s been difficult to find lunch because they won’t open the door and I’m not standing in line outside. Another place I would like to mention that I haven’t had any issues with in several different locations is Smithfield’s chicken and bbq. Every one I have been in between Siler City and Wilmington has been on point with service and food.

I used to bring one of these to the office, will reheat leftovers or cook meals

I occasionally use the app to order a breakfast sandwich from the McDonalds I pass on the way to work, and twice I've arrived at the restaurant and the lights were off with no employees in sight. Fortunately they don't charge unless you actually pick up the order.

Sheetz, on the other hand, has always been open with quick and friendly service. Their sausage/egg/english muffin just isn't the same, however.

It's a rare day that I go to any of the FF places.
But I can tell you every mom & pop diner within a 40 mile radius.
About the same with the Mexican places like Blackgun says. The Mexicans kick ass and take names. And the Senoritas dress is women clothes. They're not confused, they know what a woman is and they're proud of it.
Never really understood the stampede to them grease pits. *shrug*

waaay back in the day, before Skype/Zoom, i was on the road a lot.
i packed my food for the next day the night before. saved much money.
even then, CFA was the best of the national chains. it was not even close.

I'm glad some have chimed in with positive comments. Credit where it's due, and good tips for those of us in this or that area.

I basically gave up on FF around plandemic onset. Bad service, mediocre food at best, indifferent~grumpy staff, and then came the DR closures. One of my favorite AVL burger joints went to phone/online ordering only, but you picked it up inside from a live human. They would not let me order & go out & come back in... that was the last time I've been there. And then came the Pride Month advertizing... and the decline of workforce attitude... and I no longer trust in the integrity of what food comes out...

Not worth it. I fill up my little cooler in the morning or go hungry.

Here lately, we're having more trouble with the hispanics than the rest. Hired a white, 34 yo lady a month ago that has absolutely no experience in our industry for a CSR. She's bubbly, great personality, and works her rear off, and has learned a good bit in the month she's been there. She takes pride in her work. Key thing here. Now today, one of our hispanics, who worked in shipping and is a good worker, has been there about two months, but has a little attitude at times, comes up and says, "I need to leave to go to the Dominican Republic, tonight, and I'll be gone for 2-3 weeks." So, you just found out you need to go to the DR, today? She says, no, but I forgot to mention it. We told her don't worry about coming back, you're done here. Freaking ridiculous. We have had to let a few hispanics in the last few months go because of bad attitudes, not getting along with other's, etc. Again, it's what you put up with and tolerate.

I know a lot of places are having a hard time finding people to work, but you get what you tolerate. Obviously Chick'fila doesn't put up with crap employees, and has a high standard that their workers will abide by, or you won't last long. If the other FF joints tolerate sub par employees, well, you get a sub par business. I have high standards for my department, and everyone know's what I expect out of them, and that I don't tolerate a bunch of BS. My department is also the biggest money maker in the shop, and the side most people want to work in. We have fun, all get along great, but everyone know's what's expected of them, and all get it done.

I think this helps any workplace a lot! If the majority of workers at a place understand there is a standard to met, and that others meet it, and have a reasonably good time doing so, then that workplace will attract like-minded workkers. (And the slackers & sour souls don't last long.)

I have been lucky to work from home since the beginning of 2020 and have not had to endure dealing with any of the fast food restaurants during lunch. I do take care of my Grandmother and she loves KFC. Our local KFC hasn’t seemed to have any issues, always has plenty of help when I’m there getting the old gal some yardbird.

My wife and I are headed to Indiana next month to visit our friends and we are planning to take our own food for the ride up. I’d much rather eat something I made than have to be at the mercy of whatever staffing shortages we might encounter during the 8 hr trip. I’m pretty sure the food will be better quality and taste better too.

Let me clarify. Mexicans are great workers. Son in law is Columbian. They are tight nit. Have a party only on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Sunday they rest for next weeks parties. His brother is working some this week with me. On the phone all day. I basically pay him to carry my bag and watch pressure gauges while I tweek txv valves or blower speeds. Of course he was born here and white as hell like the whites who don’t show up for work.

I keep a few food totes in the truck all the time.
I try to never eat out. I can have a better lunch or dinner on my tailgate than most would pay for at a fast food place.
I work in the sun all day. Last thing I want is 47 more days sitting on a tailgate baking like a potato. But I get what you say. Maybe when the weather changes. Side note: I finally realized tea made me more thirsty. Haven’t had but 1 cup in two weeks. Been bringing to Yeti cups of water with me and a frozen bottle.

Strange, we had the opposite experience last Friday. @MacEntyre and I left my house around 5am. The McD we would pass fifteen minutes later wasn’t supposed to open until 6, according to their website. So, we were planning to stop in Asheboro. When we approached the High Point McD, all the lights were on and they were serving customers. The app snagged me an Egg MM for $2.

No one's looking to get choked out.

Just saying.
