I’m glad you asked. 😁

Staff here has to delete way too many posts that break this rule. I thought I’d create this thread (as adding the info to a sticky would be useless), which will help explain the rule and/or kick-off a great Friday Night Fight discussion.

First, the intent is imply to allow everybody a shot at/near the top of the list. It’s that simple.

The rule itself is very simple, or at least it is to me. Do not bump a thread until it’s been inactive for 24-hours. A couple notes:
1. That doesn’t mean once a day
2. Look at the last post in the thread…if it wasn’t posted at least 24 hours ago, don’t bump the thread.
3. “I’ll take it” posted in your thread holds absolutely zero weight. Same goes for “PM sent”, “trade offer sent”, etc. So there’s no reason to post “still available” until 24-hours have elapsed.
4. Some of you bump every couple days, or after a week or two, or even after months go buy. That’s fine. At least one of you bumps threads as close to the 24-hour mark as possible…sometimes for 10+ days in a row, without dropping the price or adding other incentives. Seems useless to me, but it’s not against any rule.
5. If you forget something, just add it to the original post.
6. While you’re not supposed to delete an ad if an item is Sold here on CFF, deleted previous bumps in an effort to clean up your ad is perfectly acceptable. Just be aware we can see deleted posts…so deleting a previous one and then bumping it early isn’t going to work. 😝

So….if you’ve had a post deleted and the reason in the message was “violation of 24hr bump rule”, hopefully that helps explain it. I’ll assume that some of you interpreted it as once a day, and others assumed other posts in your thread didn’t count against the clock. But if you go back to the intent of the rule, I hope this post clears it up. Just trying to have BST sections that ar as fair as possible.

And yes, sometimes you post early, but we don’t see it until after the 24-hour time has passed…but those are still going to get deleted once they’re spotted/reported. 😎

If you post something for sale and get a couple of “PMs incoming” posts in the thread, many times others assume a deal is afoot and hold off. If you answer the PMs and the item is still for sale, can you not say “Pms answered” or “still available” as has been the practice in past?

Because we will argue about that, being Friday and all.

After 24 hours, sure. That’s why I posted #3.

PMs answered isn’t necessary. We’ve beat the topic (of “calling dibs”) into the ground. I can go find that latest discussion and post a link here if anybody needs it. If you’d like to post a “bump - all PMs answered, item still available” 24 hours after the last post, go for it.

After all, we’re just talking about one day. Very few items go SPF in the first day.

The bigger issue with the items claimed quickly is sellers not changing the dropdown to SPF. (Followed by failure to mark the Sold afterwards)

Gotta have something to do....that other thread got shut down. 🤣

The last forum most of us inhabited had four times the number of members we have here and this was not the problem it has apparently become here.

I’ve never been a proponent of making folks pay to be able to post a BST, but I would suggest that rather than get so rigid with the rules, just start deleting entire for sale ads. Maybe that will get the attention of the arms list refuges, or whoever the scofflaws are who are causing so many headaches for the mods.

If someone lists something without a price or it’s just messed up. I remove the whole ad. Y’all don’t call me a butthole for nothing

^truth^

Y’all just think I’m the mean one in the BST when I delete a post at the 23:51 mark. 🤣🤣

Hasn’t happened to me but thought I’d ask as I don’t see it covered above

if someone asks one of those (rare) valid questions or clarifications in the sale thread a couple hours after it’s posted, can the seller answer or do they need to wait until the 24 hours is up to reply? Editing the initial post to answer would likely be potentially more confusing.

Answering is acceptable.

I was sent a note from a Mod today that a post had been deleted and then the thread was backed up 11 days. Curious why not just delete the whole thing?? And since my post was a week in on the thread....I thought the note .......Just Get Over It...was inappropriate.

Or fixing and adding info to the original post would be more acceptable

If that’s the one I’m thinking of (honestly can’t remember exactly what I typed as the reason), over a dozen people got the exact same message for the same thread. If it was a different thread, I don’t know what it’s about.

One of those members that goes through and posts in a couple dozen welcome threads every few weeks bumped one that needed to just fade away. I deleted his bump, every reply after it, and locked the thread.

We’ve even discussed auto-locking welcome threads after a week or so. But that’s a whole different discussion than early bumps. 😁
