What is the significance/desirability of a “flat latch” Ruger Single Six?

I believe it was the fact it was an early model only thing. Another neat thing is they produced a lightweight model with an aluminum frame much like a current day wrangler.

Some more modern single sixes also have aluminum frames, I believe.

Flat latch single six has no transfer bar safety, although it can be added.

They do get more for 'em, but I dunno how much.

I’d like one.

To op question..... desirability is only in nonavailability. The ugliness precludes desirability (read that availability) in later models in so far as it would negatively impact sales. It's a feature that died well.

Those guns are called; "Flatgates" by the Ruger folks. Generally collectable to most. The serial numbers from 1-150000 were made with a slightly smaller bore diameter than the later convertibles, (post 150000) where .22 Magnum ammo was able to be used. As such,, many enjoy shooting these guns because they are quite accurate.

That flat loading gate was the original design. An aftermarket company (Premier) started offering a rounded gate as an accessory. Ruger changed to the rounded loading gate & Premier's business in the gates died.

While some may think they are ugly,, value wise,, I've never seen them be a detractor when having the flat loading gate.
