What is your go to for store-bought hot sauce?

Current fridge door collection, got some Franks and other unopened stuff in cabinet I should have pulled out for the picture. Speedy’s is a shop in VA Beach I get my brother to pick up for me.

Black Bison (ghost& scorpion) and the Tabasco scorpion are currently hottest stuff here, most of these are pretty mild

I keep meaning to stop at this place in Fort Mill and get some sauces as well, they usually have some of his stuff on the hot ones lineup

Yea it gives things a little kick and you get used to that. Most any meat or sauce gets a touch of hot sauce before we eat. My boy will use half the darn bottle if you let him.

Are you guys using this stuff regularly?

There was a bottle of Tabasco in my house when I was growing up. Same bottle. My mom probably still has it.

Do you put it on finished food?

I use it (Texas Pete) on my scrambled eggs, grits, most chicken I eat and any Mexican dish.

I tried it on a Krispy Kreme doughnut before…really wasn’t bad.

Texas Pete on KK doughnut….doesn’t get any more “Winston” than that. Then again, I did smoke a Camel afterwards, so it did, in fact, get more “Winston”.👍

Sriracha

And

Homemade Hot Pepper Vinegar - for greens - if you know you know!

Texas Pete on a KK donut sounds good!

One of the great odd ball items I had, that was excellent…. One year at the NC Seafood Festival (Morehead City, NC), a vendor had Coconut Shrimp with a side of Texas Pete ice cream! So guuud.

This came across my news feed a couple of days ago.

North Carolina based maker of Texas Pete hot sauce sued in California court for false advertising. Plaintiff claims hot sauce is deceptively marketed as Texan.

Seems simple to me. It doesn’t say it’s from Texas. It says Pete is from Texas. What a waste of time and energy.

That mule sauce comes in hot or mild. The mild is good for flavor.

Also check out franks red hot lineup. They have several offerings including a wing sauce that my kiddos love

And yes no i in bggs. Bgg are my initials i added the s for no freaking reason at all

That smoked jalapeño sauce is one I haven’t seen or tried. What’s it like?

It's pretty mild maybe 1.5 or 2 on scale of 10, very flavorful. "Fresh smoked green jalapeño’s with fresh onion and garlic for a rich savory flavor that is better than a Friday night smoke down."
My wife's favorite, she eats it on chicken for lunch almost every day.

You can only get the little bottles from their online store - once a year I get my brother to get a half dozen of the big bottles from the store directly

Grab some and come to the Oceana air show this fall.

Hot sauce discussion always brings out the “that’s not HOT” guys.

I figure those guys started off with Texas Pete or Tobasco, and long ago burnt off their ability to detect nuance or flavor and can now only be satisfied with eating lava.

I do like things hot and probably have made my taste buds somewhat accustomed to the heat over the years.

I do like sauces with flavors other than heat though. One of my favorites is the Tabasco Habanero I posted above. It has papaya and mango and is actually quite sweet. It's a great flavorful sauce that's not rectum shredding brutal. Give it a try. It's really good.

For the “hot sauce curious”, what do you recommend? I don’t much care for Texas Pete.
Try Valentina or Tapatio. They are a bit different than just vinegar and fermented pepper, without being excessively hot. If you like a more intense heat, yucateco.

Thanks for the link! I ordered a bottle of it and 3 other flavors to try.

I make Bob's Habanero hot sauce using ghost peppers instead of habaneros. It's usually too hot for me, but I have several folks that ask me to make it for them every year. Everyone says it has good flavor and heat. I'm growing some habaneros this year and will try them this year.

tell me about this. I've always been curious about it
Very Flavorful! Its a sauce, not a salsa (chunks). You can use it as a condiment or as a cooking ingredient.
For the last 80 years, this product has been used in more Mexican kitchens that all the others combined.
When I first moved to the Carolinas in 1993, it was not avaliable in the local grocery stores... I had to have it shipped from Arizona. These days you can buy it in WalMart & FoodLion.

For full flavor, it is hard to beat.

I’m partial to Sriracha, Tabasco (green) and hot chili crisp that I bought from the Asian grocery store - all staple items. I’m also a fan of crushed cayenne pepper - but I’m getting ready to try a version of crushed pepper flakes that is jalapeño based too. I bring up the crushed pepper because some time you want to spice up a sauce that normally doesn’t come that way

It goes on 75% of my food. Some days I use actual peppers... Ghost and habanero when they're in season..

If I just want to grab a bottle for flavoring, and don’t want the food to just taste like the sauce, what’s a good “training wheels” sauce?

The one @Mr. Bggs posted sounds interesting, as I like the thought of adding some sweet to the mix.

Side note: Until I posted it just now I never noticed that there is no “i” in @Mr. Bggs
Secret aardvark is good. Melinda's has very accurate ratings on their sauces...some are mild and others are quite hot. I think of all the sauces I have tried, I like the flavor of the Melinda's sauces the best. They're all good, with the exception of the truffle one, but I don't like that flavor in general.

My god, do you pee fire and crap lava?
I just really like hot peppers... After you get used to the heat the flavor of the peppers themselves are amazing. I love the good citrus flavor of an habanero. The first time I ate a reaper it tasted like raspberry to me. If I stop eating them and my tolerance goes down...then they lose their taste and are only hot.

I really like the chipotle Tabasco.
And then there’s that stuff from the waxapahaw gas station.

@DCGallim what the hell is that called. I’m out.

so thanks to @DaveInCLT post I ordered 4 to try.
these are really good! They all have great flavors and heat.

The Smoked Jalapeño tasted like it sounds, Smokey and roasted peppers,
The Mango crush was sweet and savor, reminded me of a peach salsa with heat.
The Honey habanero is sweet but does not have much honey flavor. It has a mild Smokey aspect to it.
The persimmon lemon cranberry was different, not sweet at all. I thought it would be fruity but it’s not. It’s more lemon & savory. It’s not bad At all, just completely different then I thought it would be.

I definitely recommend them and I’m happy with them.

I am typically a Frank's guy for store bought varieties. But the two above have my interest. I am just a hop skip and a jump from the Saxapahaw sto.
