Going to go ahead and tag @Derek8404

I’m going to upper AZ (around Camp Verde) the second week in May to visit a friend and will be there Mon-Fri. Besides the Grand Canyon and maybe Cliff Castle Casino, what else should I add to the itinerary? Vegas is probably too far (and I am not a big gambler) but are there any must sees in the area?

The Grand Canyon Railroad is a great ride. Williams AZ is a great visit too. A drive through Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon is worth the time (and a stop in Sedona). Jerome has some great mining museums and is a fun visit.

Wish I could be more help, but I haven’t ventured up to that area of the state yet. I hear that Sedona has a lot of cool things to check out and it looks like you’re going to very close to that. You could bring some guns and go shoot in the desert, that’s always a good time.

My buddy has plenty, so I am not bringing any, but that is definitely on the list

Don't know if it's too far you but Canyon de Chelly National Monument is a bucket list item for me.

Canyon de Chelly and then head up to Monument Valley and stay at Goulding's Lodge. Several John Wayne movies were filmed there when he was working with John Ford. It is a visually stunning area.

Monument Valley is little further than Vegas so maybe that rules it out as well. The Canyon is closer though.

Glen Canyon floating raft trip. Wife and I did this on our trip to the Grand Canyon way back in 2000. Probably the best part of the trip.

Verde Canyon RR is a nice scenic trip.
Second the advice on seeing Sedona-beautiful place, lots of hiking trails.

They got, like, a fire going right now.

No idea, but I was just getting ready to get on here and ask if anybody was going to San Antone or Phoenix, Arizona.

Lived there 20 years. The canyon is boring and a long drive. Get to Sedona 100 percent. If your really going for it a side by side rental to the indian ruins or a jeep rental and do broken arrow trail is worth every penny. Close to verde you could check out Jerome for a little touristy shopping. For a little nature the mogollon rim is close to verde as well. Visit woods canyon lake right on the rim. But by far the best thing going in az is Sedona.

I spent some time in that area in February.

The natural bridge in this state park is pretty cool: https://azstateparks.com/tonto

We took the train from Williams, AZ to Grand Canyon. Unless you have a real affinity for trains, or have a group of people to enjoy it with, I'd skip it and just drive to the Canyon.

Someone above mentioned Jerome, AZ. Cool town, but beware it pretty much clings for its life on the side of a cliff! The drive through Sedona IS spectacular, but Sedona itself is pretty much an overpriced tourist town for rich folks.

He ain't kidding about that drive up to Jerome! It's like driving a road in the Swiss Alps.
Very cool little town on the top of that drive though. Lead singer of the band Tool lives there in case you're a fan.

Highly recommend the Broken Arrow pink Jeep tour if stopping in Sedona.

Sleepin' under a table in a roadside park
A man could wake up dead

It may have already been mentioned, but skip the lower rim of the GC and go to the upper rim. It’s not nearly as touristy.

The southern rim is full of your buses and rudeness. Thw upper rim barely has railings at thw scenic spots.

Which Indian ruins are you referring to? That is definitely on our must see list but there are quite a few out there

Palatki petroglyphs. I rented a side by side in Sedona and made a day of it. The ride out made it worthwhile
