What's the "weird food" you like?

Someone mentioned pickled herring. That is my number one. Always have it in the house. No longer have it in cream sauce though.

If you ever get a chance to try Hunter's livermush (made in McDowell county), try it. I think it is much better than Neeses.

My wife absolutely cannot watch me eat crabs or lobster in the shell.

Crab meat or lobster meat is OK, but a plate full of crab legs ot lobster tail? She'll either not go to the restaurant with me (my kids will go) or she'll stand a menu up between us while I eat.

Pickled eggs? I love them but never met anyone outside of my family that likes them.

Same with raw unroasted chestnuts.
I had some pickled quail eggs from Louisiana in a Cajun hot sauce that was very tasty.

Cue HERRINGS!!

You are not alone. My grandmother used to make home made ones.

Cayenne pepper on a PB/Nutella sandwich.

The OP makes me laugh... mine would probably be braunschweiger.

It's best on melba toast.

Potted meat
Vienna sausage
Treat with extra sharp cheddar with mustard Sammich, right out of the can or browned lightly. Spam works too.
Calamari
Octopus fried like onion rings

Scrambled eggs with ketchup and mayonnaise. My granddaddy used to eat it. Fed it to me as a toddler grew up eating it and still love it. With fresh sausage links from Kinlawā€™s and grandmaā€™s homemade buttermilk biscuitsā€¦ā€¦

Yum!!

Iā€™m intrigued with the dried scuttlefishā€¦.

Dad used to eat Braunschweiger and sauerkraut sammitchesā€¦ā€¦. Ho lee chitā€¦.
Wouldnā€™t get near him for daysā€¦..

Not much I don't eat in this world, including almost everything on this entire thread, but my one weird thing I love is a worchestershire sauce sandwich: just white bread with a good bit of it on there.

Lengua (cow tongue) tacos from the local Mexican store. It's the most amazing melt in your mouth cut of beef you can get.

Fried chicken livers. I get excited when a fried chicken breast still has that little chunk of liver attached.

I have an absolute love for sour cream. I could eat it out of the container with a spoon but I don't šŸ˜†.

Spam and eggs
Vienna sausage
Grilled cheese and catsup
Before giving up sugar, syrup on omelettes. (A childhood thing)

Must not be any "old COUNTRY BOYS" posting in this section . We grew up poor and ate anything that didn't eat me first. To this day I still love fried chitterlings also called chittlins with hot sauce. Also fried beef tripe with vinegar and hot sauce. .When I lived with my grandparents my grandpa cooked pork brains and eggs all scrambled together with fried fatback.

My wife (from Indiana) likes this crazy sausage thing called braunschweiger. I'd never heard of it until she asked for me to pick it up at the store. It's kind of pate-like and tastes of liver (tried it, yuck).
Try that on some toasted rye bread with a little mustard... yuuuum!

Now I have to try boudin
Itā€™s the greatest.
Be careful not to make a solid opinion on local offerings. Southwest Louisiana is the king. My first taste came in the mid 70ā€™s in Lake Charles. I ate that stuff all the time. šŸ™‚

I knew if I kept following this thread someone from our side in the country would post the good things we enjoyed that were considered weird by those who lived in "town".

@thrillhill will know what I'm talking about.

Almost anything that omes out of the ocean is fair game. Sea Urchins are #1, then you have the Eels, Octopus, all sorts of snails. Last year in Portugal we found a jetty that was covered with what my relatives would call "Patella", they are like little Abalone, I stayed there with a small pocket knife for an hour popping those things off the rocks and eating them.
This year we went to Sardinia, went to the town my family is from on an island off of Sardinia. Brought back with me 2 Kilos of Bottarga de Tonno. It is Tuna eggs that are salt cured and pressed, awesome stuff grated on top of pasta.
My favorite fish to eat?? StingRay.

A country boy has just arrived. Well, hillbilly to be exact.

I've had bear, squirrel, deer, possum, groundhog, raccoon...just about every critter you can think of. We also ate anything that one could find at a salvage grocery store. Pigs feet. Pork brains. If it could be eaten, we ate it. If they had it at Odom's Salvage on the Connelly Springs road we gave it a try.

I've also had ostrich, rattlesnake, gator, horse, and kangaroo. Sure there's more but that's just off the top of my head.

When you're poor you don't get many choices and you're grateful for what you can get.

When I lived in Germany I ate a lot of braunschweiger. I wasn't the only one. Most of the kids came to school smelling like it every morning. The stuff we got over there was wrapped in fatty pig skin. Sort of like this only the skin was much thicker.
