When did you buy your 1st firearm?

Late '81 or early '82. I bought a used Mini-14 from Gene Parsons at Gene's Gun Shop in Sanford, NC. 181-504XX Gene's is long gone and so is the Mini-14. I do wish I still had it.

1999, Ruger 9mm semi (forget model number) in preparation for Y2K. Held it for a while, traded it for a SA XD45.

1st gun that I purchased was in 1965 it was a Marlin 989M2 22cal, it looked like a M1 carbine. I was 14 worked at a drive-in as a curb boy for about 2 months to pay for it. I still have it.

The year was 1980, I was 21 years old. I was working with a guy that had a blued 6” Colt Python, I decided right then that I had to have one.

I paid a grand total of $419.00 for that Python, and used it as a shooter but needed a second transportation and ended up trading the Python for a motorcycle some years later.

Second gun bought, Ruger mkll, gun is still in the family.

Last year age 32, a taurus pt111. Why it took so long for me, your guess is as good as mine. Ive since became engulfed in the 2a life!! Built my first ar15 and have a few glocks now!! Even got my wife training and carrying now!

1085, Sig P226 while going to Nuke School in Orlando. Purchased a M1A with a national match barrel later that year.

1085? Just how the hell old are you, anyway?? JK...actually Nuke School in Orlando shows your age....

1991, a Springfield aluminum frame/lightweight 1911, Mace's on 70 in Mebane.

Growing up my father was the gun collector, so I really never saw the need to buy my own. Anytime we went hunting or to the range he would let me take my pick. At the time, being young, I thought my dad owned every gun ever made because no matter what I needed, he had it.

I would say about 10 years or so ago for Christmas he gave me a Ruger Single Six with the .22mag conversion cylinder. And then suddenly a lightbulb seemed to go off with me thinking "Wait a minute...I can actually own these myself now...I dont need to just go to the old mans safe?!" Which started me on a path of newbie moronic purchases. I grabbed a bubba'd SKS off armslist, sold it because it sucked, bought a Llama compact 1911, sold it because it just kinda left me "meh", bought a Ruger P85 in a private sale. The P85 was a beast, but was big and wanted to move to something more "carry friendly", and at this point was starting to get my head firmly on my shoulders about whats what in the firearms world. So I sold it for what I paid for it, added a bit to the amount and bought a Glock 19 gen 3 from Colfax Guns and Ammo. It became my carry piece for a number of years. Still have it and shoot it probably the best out of my "carry guns".

Somewhere in there I went through the Mosin stage...where I bought one for $90 bucks from a gun show. Bought and sold a few over the years.

Anyway...if I had to peg any of my guns as my real "first" I would count my Glock 19 because I feel, looking back, it was the first one I bought when I really knew what I was doing other than just grabbing whatever I could for whatever money I happened to have.

The week I turned 18, still lived in NJ so I had to get my FOID card, but I ordered a REA Entry Tactical AR & 18.5” 870. I had to wait 9mo to get them because of the FOID times.

The first firearm I ever got was a Chinese SKS when I was a teenager. Dad had to buy it for me.

First one I ever bought for myself was a Marlin .22 magnum. I learned a lot with that rifle. Over the years it wore several scopes, got an upgraded stock, and an improved trigger. Unfortunately, I'd been cleaning it all that time with an aluminum rod from the muzzle end, so the accuracy degraded a bit as the crown was worn down. Eventually sold it cheap to someone who wanted it for shooting pests around the farm.

First handgun was a Ruger GP100 6" that I bought shortly after turning 21. I still own that one, and it probably has the highest round count of all my firearms.

Just as soon as I turned 21, in 1979, I went to Sheriffs Department and got the permit to purchase for a handgun. I bought a Ruger Mark 1 Target with the 6 7/8" barrel. I still have it. I added wooden target grips and a Clarke trigger for those of you who might remember that company.

1980... a power line 880 that was given to me, at age 4 by my dads rappel buddy, started my addiction.
first purchase at age 15, was an 870 wingmaster from a soldier in PANAMA.

Mine was a Hi Standard .22 target pistol in 1980 when I was on the UNC Pistol Team. Shot many a match with it. Eventually traded it for a Colt series 70 .45 in 1983 when I was a police officer. Still have the Colt

My best recollection is '04 bought an 870 from Walmart. Wasn't in any particular hurry, dad had me pretty well hooked up. May have been a AR lower before that... CRS.

I don't sell guns, have given away one, a P99AS, regret that, but didn't expect her to walk out of my life.

I bought my first gun at 14 at Booth Whites Sporting Goods in Danville,Va it was a Browning A5 12 gauge and I still own that gun

Don't remember my first long gun, but my 1st pistol at 21yrs old is a 1985 S&W 686 for $265.00
bought from Jack at Whetstone Army Navy. I still have it.
RIP Jack.

After spending a few of my teenage years plinking with a bolt action 22lr I was given I got married and forgot about such things until I divorced and suddenly realized I wanted more guns. 😁

So close to 20 years ago I bought my first gun. Not sure which one was actually first legally, but I first did the paperwork on a full size steel Witness in 45 at PDHSC. They had to order it, and while I was waiting I bought a used G26 from a gun store in North Raleigh, and became G26man on Glocktalk. The rest is history. Oh yeah, the Witness was awesome.

First 2 guns were bought for me when I was 9 and 10 respectively.

First gun j bought for myself was a Russian SKS I bought from a pawn shop when I was 18. It was a shade under 100 bucks if memory serves.

No I no longer have it. Sadly....

For that matter the first six or seven guns I bought for myself have moved on to other owners.

Still have the two that were bought for me though. And will until they are passed to my kids.

Norinco sks new in box in 1999. Paid $140. Wish I never sold that one.

First ar15 in 2000. Bushmaster 20in target bbl. A1 upper. Sold it to my brother few years later.

The first gun I bought was a Glenfield (Marlin) Model 60 .22 semiautomatic, with the coveted squirrel stock. That was in 1972, and I think I paid around $35 for it, new, at a Rose's department store. Shortly thereafter I bought a Remington 870 Wingmaster 12 gauge. I still have them both. The first gun I sort of had was an early 1950's Remington Model 514 (old enough that it has no serial number) single shot bolt action .22 that my dad bought at the "trade lot", and I considered mine. But I never actually owned it; before he died, dad gave it to my (grown) son. I do have custody of it, though, since my son lives in New York City and can't keep it there. He has a step son who is 13 - I would love to teach him to shoot that old .22 but I doubt I'll ever get the chance.

In 2004 when I turned 18 I bought a Yugo SKS at a gun show for $200 (took me 20 minutes to choose it out of the batch they had). I bubba'd it back then, but when I got older I restored it to its former glory. I still have it, has had thousands of rounds through it.

The first gun I actually bought with my money was a Ruger Blackhawk .357 when I was 13-14 years old. Pops had to approve and it was a private transaction between me, my dad, and the guy dating a relative who was a whore. That Blackhawk is gone, Pops is gone, but the whore is still kickin’.

First one I ever bought new (not traded something for) was a .32 Walther PPK/S in 1991. It was a gift to my dad who had one stolen from him when I was a kid. It came back to me when he died, and at the time it was too painful to keep so I sold it.

1st gun- Marlin 70HC (HC because it included a Butler Creek single stack 25 round plastic translucent magazine). I bought it in 1992 at Brendle’s in Greensboro (I was going to UNC-G). I was 19 at the time. That gun, while I haven’t fired it in at least 15 years, is still in one of my safes.

1st shotgun- Maverick 88 12 gauge from J&B arms in Greensboro. Also bought in 1992. I sold or traded it off sometime later in the 1990s.

1st centerfire rifle- Norinco SKS purchased at Roses in Carrboro for $79 still covered is cosmoline. Also in 1992. Also sold or traded later although I again have a Norinco SKS in the safe. It unfortunately cost a lot more than $79.

1st handgun- Ruger P91DC .40 S&W. I bought that in 1994 just after I turned 21 and I was living in Charlottesville, VA. Bought from a gun shop there, can’t recall the name. Also sold/traded later but I have another now simply for nostalgia.

It now rests in The Gun Room at Battery Oaks..we're proud to have it.
I made my first firearm at about 10 years old.
I think think I made the barrel from an old car steering column.

The one you have was made from a motorcycle front fork tube.
The first one is lost to posterity. :)
We'll choot the one you have some time.

My first purchased was a Norinco SKS at Roses on Eastern Blvd in Fayetteville around 1988. It was $69.99 and you got to pick your own from a crate. Don’t remember what happened to it, but I got another later on and will keep this one.

At age 12 or 13, year 1946 or 47, (memory not so good) at O.O. Rufty's in Salisbury, I put 50 cents down on an H&R 22 revolver. Every week or so I'd go in put another 50c down till it was paid for. Had to remove the cylinder to load it. No parents involved. Those were the days!

A friend bought it later and kept till he died two years ago. It was auctioned off.

It was free! I think I was 12 or 13.

A friend was responsible for a raffle. Someone else bought me a ticket for my birthday. And I won! It was an old SKS. don't remember which country it was from.

I don't know if it was rigged or not. I always speculated that a bunch of sketchy people bought tickets and he drew my name because he trusted me with it. I'll never know though. Never asked. I eventually sold it to buy a 10/22 which was the first one I actually bought. (well, my mom had to buy it for me. Lol)

In 1999 I bought some type of Egyptian AK with a 1k rounds and a 75 round drum mag. I did not keep it very long the trigger slap was horrendous. I ended up trading it to a friend for use on his bobcat for a couple months, he was happy I was happy, worked out well.

Probably around 1995-1996 because it came with 10rd magazines but a G19 when I was probably 15 or 16, had to have my mother actually buy it but it was my money. Remember buying 10,000 rounds of surplus 9mm ammo for like $6/box and I shot every round of it over the summer. If you ever come across a G19 with the SN of BUT039US.... I'd like it back along with all the other guns that she got rid of when I moved for school. #bitternotbitter

First gun I actually bought on my own was a G23 in 2003 when I turned 21.

1985....The Ruger GP100 had just hit the market. I handled one at a dealer's shop and it felt like Bill Ruger used my hand to design the grip.
Still one of my favorite dbl action revolvers.

When I was 18 in California. Mosin Nagant; and my parents were huge anti-gunners so I had to hide it at a friend's place. Dumb I know, but worth I trusted him and worth it to own a beautiful Russian beauty

2012 I was 18 (I'm a child I know) I bought my first gun. Remington 700 ADL SS in 30-06 still have it and have shot many deer with it.

Not the first gun I ever had. Just the first one I paid for by myself.
