Which buttstock would you go with for an AR10, 18" barrel? Primary use is hunting from box and tree stands with bench/position shooting for sight in and load development.

It has an A2 stock now, I'm not opposed to keeping that but my preferred sling would need some sort of adaptor to make work.

I'm leaning towards a Magpul UBR 2.0 as it seems to offer the best of length adjustment, cheek weld and sling mounting options (important for hauling, various stand setups, etc.).

What option am I not considering?

I'm using a Magpul fixed carbine stock on mine. I found it to have the best LOP for me and I have it on several of my rifles.

I'm not tall, but I have a 72" reach.

I have looked at the luth stock.....mine currently has a SOPMOD on it now 20" 6.5 CM. I like the sling mounts and adjustments.....you can also add a buttpad if you want/need. If the A2 stock doesn't have enough height for cheek weld you can add one however for the cost of a good one you can probably swap it out.

I have found that Luth-AR stock (helped a friend put one on an AR), and it caused more problems than it fixed. Basically he adjusted the cheek weld so high to where it “felt right”, the scope ran out of elevation adjustment to compensate for his changed position.

Just be careful if you try to use a bench rest stock for non bench rest purposes.

Any concerns on weight? The STR on my Noveske AR10 seems nice and well rounded, but is obviously more tacticool than maybe you need for hunting. I like the UBR looks, but it's been a while since I've handled one, and it was a first gen.

yup. That's exactly my concern with many of the 'good' stocks. I have a PRS on another rifle and there's no way I'd take it into a tree stand.

I'm leaning towards using the Magpul MOE rifle stock. I use this on my 3 Gun rifle and it's been great. Simple like an A2, but with added sling options.

My Luth stock is perfect. Lightweight, adjustable, and affordable. They make 20MOA optic mounts and rails...

Although I don't need one for my purposes

LOP on that one is extremely short. Like 12.2"

for non-bench shooting, I prefer the shorter LOP. And I'm a taller (6'4") guy
I will tell you that unless you're planning on 3 gun with a 10lb rifle, you don't want to shorten LOP with a scoped .308 rifle. But YMMV

This is on my deer rifle and I love it

I like my MOE rifle stock.
Except for the 'butt pad'...since it technically is one. I think they got the idea from an anvil.
I've got other punchy rifles with no butt pad at all, just a plate. But at least they didn't try to fake it.
Trying to find a butt pad that fits the MOE rifle stock is difficult. I went with the MDT.

I wish limbsaver made one..I think it would probably be better. But it's much more comfy than that thin stock plate, snuggles nicely and it does add a bit to LOP.

I put this one on mine and it works really well.

Something in my little bird-brain memory makes me think that one didn't fit the MOE rifle stock...just the adjustable MOE stock and some of the others.
Do you have the rifle stock like in my pic?
I don't recall details but I do remember that I struggled finding a butt pad for the rifle stock. I'd be looking and descriptions would say 'fits MOE stocks' and then further inquiry's revealed, oh, not the MOE rifle stock. It was aggrivating since almost every description of butt pads would just say fits MOE stocks, without differentiating between the fixed and adjustable stocks, which are not the same.

That's a good lookin rifle, and I don't really even go for FDE. How long is the barrel?
24” bull stainless flutes threaded.

I actually though about selling the rifle. It’s an 80% so I would need to color the customer supplied lower to match everything else, but its a hell of a build.

If you want a Luth Ill send you one. Won it a few years ago and its way to heavy and has too many adjustments for my use

Read the description, the thickest one they sell, the 0.7, is what already comes standard on all milspec stocks they sell.
I HAVE the stock and the pad described it is thicker than the one I took off, so you can take your descriptions... and I think you know where they should go. :p

For weight savings a CTR ... for weight don’t matter a PRS ... for an in the middle a UBR.

Didn’t realize the MOE rifle and fixed carbine used a different pad, so maybe my bad:( I put it on a fixed carbine stock and a PRS, I do not have a magpul MOE fixed rifle but I assumed it would use the same hardware.

Apparently that Moe rifle stock is a being unto itself. It's different. I have a sweet pad on a CTR I was gonna use on the rifle stock. Not even close.
