Ok, how many if you are going to fess up to doing something like this?

So, now I'm in the country. One of the things I came to appreciate is that just about all my neighbors shoot. This was confirmed last July 4th. ;)

Mostly it's quiet, but a couple of weeks ago, one of the neighbors adjacent to my property and over a ridge has taken to extensive blasting sessions right when it's getting dark, about 8PM. Goes on for about an hour. Soooo... the other night I decided to let him know I was here. I go out with the AR and do some double taps and such in the ravine so the sound is focused in their direction. Plus, I like the sound of rolling thunder echoing down the valley. In response, I get a mag dump. Sooo... I go back in and bring out a short barreled .308. It was quiet after that. But, I was about to prep some tannerite. I felt like a kid. Like that story of that SR-71 pilot, and a 12yr old was reaching for the switch. :D

I did this with a lady friend years ago, at an outdoor range.

I was teaching her to shoot, and she was plinking away at shotgun shells on a log when this nitwit set up at the table next to us. He pulls out a magnum revolver, sets up his target, puts his hearing protection on, then proceeds to blast away as fast as he can pull the trigger.

Not hitting squat, for all his efforts, either.

Then he'd take his mickey mouse ear muffs off (everybody else at the range was plinking away with .22's), reload, put his muffs back on, and blast away again. In general, doing a good job at projecting rude behavior. ('Cause we all have seen rude people at the range if we've been shooting long enough.)

Every time he fired, my lady friend would jump. She was quite perturbed. I told her to concentrate on her shooting and do her best to ignore him...I'd take care of him.

Next time he pulled his ear muffs off, I casually tossed a full Coke can several yards out in front of us, pulled my AMT Automag II (.22 WMR with a 6 inch barrel), blew the can wide open with my first shot and unloaded the rest of my magazine into it for good measure, about as fast as he was shooting his revolver.

He scrambled to put his ear muffs back on. "WHAT THE H*LL ARE YOU SHOOTING?"

".22 Magnum. Oh, you might want to keep your hearing protection on at all times while the range is hot."

He left shortly afterwards.

Baby Thunder may not be as big as other magnums, but an 18 inch muzzle flash and the magnum boom out of a 6 inch barrel will still make you stand up and take notice. Especially if you're standing right next to it with no hearing protection on.

One of these days, I'm going to up my game to a Wildey .475 Magnum. Especially now that they're back in business again.

About the only thing louder than the AMT .22 Magnum is the AMT in .30 Carbine.

I love my Automag II so much I SERIOUSLY considered buying the Automag III (.30 Carbine) when it came out.

But when I handled one in a shop, it just didn't feel right in my hand. Loved the looks of it, but just couldn't get over the feel.

*sigh*

Shoulda bought it anyway. 'Cause you know...guns.

It has a big ol grip to fit those rounds up in there. My buddy has one and it is fun to shoot, but it shore is loud.

The times I miss being down range (all after I retired too)

I think we may be triangulating. We have a guy that shoots like that over here in North Gaston, right about 8pm. Just 1 shot every 2 seconds. Methodical just as one is practicing. Don't bother me.. I like the sound of freedom.

Ever been next to a 7wsm with a good brake???

Even with plugs and muffs it'll rattle your brain on the other side of the firing line. Always good for a good range clearing. @drypowder might remember what it sounded like. Other than the sound of freedom of course.

I've been about 6 ft away from my brother when he's shooting the Springfield M1A Squad Scout w/ the factory muzzle break.....Dear Heavens, sounds obnoxious.

^ Truth. That's a muzzle blast I don't want to be anywhere near.

That's out of pistol?

:D

Had an AMD-65 I couldn't get rid of fast enough. Damned thing'd clear a firing line with one shot & the concussion from the shot was unpleasant as hell.

If I wanted to screw with a neighbor I'm pretty sure a 325gr Hornady FTX outta my .45-70 Guide Gun would get their attention.

Hmm... black powder. Can you get the same effect with Pyrodex?

Then I guess you wouldn't like a SOCOM16. ;)
