Why are 99.9 percent of the bolt guns in the classified trash guns or stupid cartridges?

I've had my eyes peeled for a Kimber, Cooper, Ruger 77 tanger or No. 1 or even a decent 700 or model 7 etc....somewhere between .243 and .280 and on this forum it's like they don't exist. And forget about a nice over under!

Well, I guess one man's trash is another man's treasure.
Funny how I've seen more than a few GTG rigs in the classifieds, but then I'm a bit of a regular on here.....

Since 2017 I have bought one rifle and one optic from here. But I like LR centerfire target rifles and there are very few of them floating around anywhere. But for those interested in older military style rifles, AR's, and pistols this is a great site. It caters to what the members like. Occasionally there are some great deals to be found on PRS and hunting rigs, and both SA and DA revolvers. You just have to keep looking. If you are looking for something very specific, there are other online avenues available. No big deal, really.

There are no stupid cartridges, just like there are no ugly women. Some are just prettier and smarter than others. :D

@Downeast what calibers are you looking for? Been thinking about putting a couple hunting rifles up for sale.

@Average Joe not looking for any particular calibers and I'm good with hunting rifles. But in the back of my mind I'm looking for a decent 700 LA. I could care less about the barrel or the stock. 7mm mag or its equivalent bolt face would be great. Sadly no "off the shelf company" builds the rifle I want so now I have to build my own. :(

Wait!!!!!
A 284 Winchester in a hunting configuration would be really nice. 🤩

Gotcha. I’ll keep an eye out. If I run across a 700 LA with magnum bolt face I’ll let you know.

I’m thinking of letting a 7mm-08 go. But not sure.

People like different stuff for different reasons.

Some people can't fathom why shooting a .22 pistol is fun, other's can't figure out how shooting slowing at something 1000 yards away can be fun.

History, significance, performance, aesthetics, ergonomics...

In the end, we like what we like and that will keep changing over time.

Though I never get tired of fondling Browning 9mms personally

284 Win is an excellent LR round. Kinda like a 7 Mag or 300 WM without the belt and the extra kick. But it still kicks. Everybody including me has wimped out in their old age and only shoot 6mm calibers anymore.

I have a straight 284 that I shoot LR with but it weighs right at 20 pounds with the optics. It's all I can do to drag it to the line.
But I have a 6 mm too so I understand completely. ;)

@Average Joe I have a 7-08 in a Winchester M70 Featherweight that has killed a truck load of deer.

An "old" 90's pic of one I shot with the '08 at around 350 yards. Those were good times.

My F -Open 284 winnie weighed about 20#'s. Inch 250 32" bbl...and it still kicked enough to open a cut over my scope eye twice in the same match. I never could get comfortable shooting prone benchrest except once where me and my F-Open 308 became one.

I guess that means you aren't interested in a mighty fine as-new Remington 700 Custom in .17 Remington Fireball with a nice new scope, mounted and sighted in?
Yes, it shoots 1/2" 10-round groups, but that requires hand-loading. You probably don't do that🥲

You should define "NICE" when talking about Superposed shotguns. Perazzi, Kreighoff, Beretta Competition grade, or Browning Citori, Winchester 101? Or maybe you like Savage or CZ.
Details are important, and you might need to take out a mortgage on some of them😟

Another one I'd like to have back. Remington 788. Was basically a twin to my 308.

What do you have? Interested but currently a poor
It’s a Savage Model 16 feather weight, stainless, with composite stock. It is a great gun for spot and stalk hunting. Sadly, I lost the private hunting land and don’t really feel that safe spot and stalk hunting on public land.

I had a chance to buy a very nice Sears and Roebuck (Ted Williams) O/U for a few hundred bucks a few years back. But who wanted a Sears O/U? Found out later Winchester produced a bunch of 101's for Sears. I remember that the walnut was really nice. Oh well. Can't win 'em all. Big Dummy. :D
