Why Are There Suddenly So Many Car Washes?....report

It takes 4 hours to hand wash, wax and vacuum my truck. Takes 20 minutes at the carwash, including travel time. It isn't about laziness.
Hey the reality is most people really don't care if the finish on their vehicle is scratched and has widespread swirl marks from auto car washes, they just want the dirt knocked off. So to each his own.

What we need is more topless hand washed car washes!

The same for me.
Yup. God washes my car.

In 20 years I’ve maybe washed my cars 30 times. And in a car wash only four times.

And I lived where it snowed ten feet a year and they used megatons of salt on the roads.

Meanwhiles… my wife has taken her subscription-based car-baths three times THIS WEEK. It’s Tuesday.
Easy car washes with this one weird trick.

Once snow season is over and rain season starts, aim for the deepest puddles. At 30+mph, it qualifies as a high pressure undercarriage wash.

When I had the truck that @MacEntyre is driving now, I would hand wash it twice a year, and wax it with the blue mequiars spray on wax. It’s called ceramic hybrid or some such crap. Stuff doesn’t stick to the paint after using this wax. With my car wash subscription, I’d run it through on my way to work a couple times a week and even if I got it muddy, because of that wax, it came out looking like I had just hand washed it. Say what you want about laziness, work smart, not hard.

I miss the old hand held spray units. I hand wash my truck but I like to use those to occasionally knock off the top layer of grime and to do the underside.

The only ones around here now are either too far or in places I wouldn't get out of the truck.

This is the way.....

It's been a few years since I did this to my truck. Paid a guy to detail, wax, do all the things and do the ceramic wax thing. Need to do it again because I've been lazy

I hate commercial car washes. Always have.

Few months ago wife took her car through one. Destroyed the front fascia.
Crappy car wash for $1,500

Can't beat the convenience for a quick wash and getting most of the crap off the floor.

My boss man who built another car dealership decided to add a automated car wash and every car that got serviced was given a free car wash. As we got done with the customers car we had to run it thru the car wash, what a disaster that turned out to be. Ive seem front and rear bumpers pulled off by the spinning brushes and antennas snapped off. Rear window wipers yanked off sometimes breaking the rear window. I once drove a customers Honda Element that has a way in the back sun roof that was open thru the wash cycle, that was interesting. Best one was a high speed blower that decided to explode as I was going thru that part. I saw it start to wobble, then big metal chunks started to fly out landing on the hood of the customers car and then the entire 100 pound fan motor assembly fell off and landed on the customers almost brand new Honda Accord's hood.

you think you're kidding... i had meant to wipe some crud off the bottom of my car the other day when i did an oil change... but it had rained recently and my undercarriage was just about spotless.

i plan to monitor this thread through the upcoming pollen season.
