I'm wanting to buy a slide with RMR/Holosun mount for my Gen5, and I see more Gen4's than Gen5's, and they are a little cheaper too. Can I use a Gen4 on my Gen5? I'm assuming so because I see sites like Zev and Suarez that sell "Gen 4/5" slides. Thanks!

The Gen 4 won't have the ejector side cut-out for the slide release, so you may need to modify your slide release for it to work.

Also, I believe the Gen 4 firing pin stop is different than the Gen 5 -- the Gen 4 has a spherical one while the Gen 5 has a ramped one (see below).

It may work, but I probably wouldn't want to trust my life to it.

Why not just send your slide off to get milled for the optic you want?

To answer your question WILL it work maybe. Will it fit on a Gen 5 slide? The answer is yes if you change the back plate to a Gen 5 version. Is it recommended and safe to do NO!!!! There are small differences in the Gen 4 and Gen 5 internals that changed with the updated Model. They really are not compatible from slide to frame in the Gen 4 & 5

I chose a gen5 slide to use on both my 5 and 4 frames and would recommend you get the gen5 slide for your gen 5 frame even if it costs a bit more. The improvements to the striker safety plunger are worth it in my opinion.
