Willow oak as firewood?

Tagged for interest. I've got three huge willow oaks in back here. They drop branches every storm and those burn pretty quickly in fire pit, but they're more rotten and dry than typical firewood.

It will be poppy if not dried long enough. Has more moisture in it and holds that moisture longer than some oaks. It can also be harder to split.

With all that said, if I had it, I would age it well and burn it. No reason not to, really, unless you just have an over abundance of firewood.

Willow oak is a good firewood - of course it must be cured. It is a dense wood that producers really good heat

It dries out quick and when burning it goes fast. It does make a good starter log.

Oops … I read it as Willow Tree not Willow Oak that I think of as Pin Oak. The Willow/Pin Oak I’ve cut burn nicely but did take a little extra time to season.

While on the subject, is leyland cypress any good for firewood? I’m going to cut down about 26 sixty foot trees.

Pin willow black water etc... all of them are subspecies of red oak meaning porous and take 2 seasons to cure. I would burn it if I got it cheap but I only stack white oak, black locust and hickory in my "good wood" pile.
