Have a friend who sent me these pics. Looks like the extractor is hitting chamber.

Thoughts? I’m not versed enough on what to do…IMG_8888.jpeg

Is that the original factory extractor? I’m no guru but id suspect that it was an aftermarket part that was not properly installed/fitted

They’ve had the rifle for like 20 years. Pretty sure bought new. Only shot a few times. Took to range this week and this was result

That gummed up area is supposed to be a slot that the extractor tip fits into when the rifle is in battery. The extractor has battered it into what you see. I would either re-barrel it or find someone who can remove the barrel and fix it with skillful welding. While that is going on, inspect the extractor and figure out why it is destroying the rifle.

Prolly not worth all that, if'n it's 20 years old. Trade it for a 20 year old Marlin.

That extractor is proud of the bolt and causing it to hit outside of the normal extractor groove that used to be where that damage is. It might have been bend outward and that is what is causing the damaging contact. It should easily flex over the rim of the cartridge.

Does the extractor itself have visible damage? Does the bolt still close? Can the rifle still cycle rounds? Load, extract and eject?
