I purchased two boxes of Winchester 555 rounds of 22 Long Rifle 36 Grain, 1280 FPS hollow point copper plated ammo a few years back. Just getting around to shooting it.

After shooting one box and half of the second box, I have had too many rounds with failure to fire. There have been seven (7) rounds that have not gone off. Have tried 2 or more times on some of the rounds. All rounds have an indentation from the firing pin. Have used the ammo in more than one 22 firearm. The one round that I disassembled had power in it but no primer.

Did Winchester put out a bad batch of ammo and I got some? Have others had problems with Winchester manufactured ammo?

Gary

Winchester White Box in any caliber is notoriously bad ammo.

I only shoot CCI, Aguila and Federal ammo after having a 1,000 pack of Winchester M22s cause me every manner of malfunction in every type of rimfire gun I own. Never again.
WWB 9mm in centerfire is fine, when it's price at $16/100 pack. Not sure if I can recall having a malfunction with any Win centerfire ammo (Remington is another story)

I will not purchased any more Aguila 22 LR rounds as it created more dirt for me than other brands. I shot up all that I purchased but did not like the dirt. It shot well and price was good. The dirt was not worth the price saving for me.

Ive shot more then a couple of the Winchester 555 boxes back a few years ago..Never had one misfire out of mine,, wondering if they don't age well since you mentioned that was a couple of years ago since you bought them ?

I've noticed that ever since the B.O. years and dry spells for ammo, that QC on any and all of the promo .22 ammo has gone downhill.
Have seen bullets canted off to one side, dented cases in loaded rounds, marked increase in misfires.
But - not sure it's bothering any manufacturers - folks keep on gobbling it up.

Just went shooting this past weekend and had some Federals that were about 4 years old.. Out of the 300 that got used up, I had 3 that failed to fire.. Guess you get what you pay for or else,, it is what it is?

I too had a few duds with that ammo, I won 12K rounds of it four years ago in the Friends NRA Dinner raffle.
Nothing excessive but I've only used up 1K rounds so far.;)

I have a box of 555 that someone gave me and no problems with duds but it’s the worst for accuracy I’ve ever shot. I use it to warm my barrel and would be happy to give it away.

I’ve always been happy with Winchester white box 9mm and 45acp both 230 gr ball and 185 gr semi wadcutter

The box I went through was fine with some of my guns but was terrible with the others. I have never had an issue with there white box ammo and would get again but I do not plan on getting more of their .22lr ammo, to include their M22 stuff.

I've had good luck with WWB in 9mm, 380, and 45acp. Bad luck and poor accuracy with Federal Auto Match .22 and WWB .22... CCI .22 has been very good...

Winchester of any find is a sad display of what American products have come to be. Same with Federal Auto Match. I will never buy those again. No more Remington Thunderbolts or Remington of anything including guns. Thank goodness for Walmart shoppers or these brands would be dead. But I suspect their partnership with the Walmart has led to their cost cutting ways which effected quality.

Save the rounds and contact Winchester with the production info on the box. They will want to know and they might comp you a box or two of ammo.
