My standing dead tree mushroom farm is putting out again. Got about 1/4 of what was on tree, not including what is in tall grass at base. Need a few for the deer stew this weekend.

This is a 9x 14 dish full of goodness!!

Nice thing about getting now is no bugs to fight

What kind of mushroom is that?

Oyster mushroom. I got the spores online 2 years ago. They stayed in the fridge for a year when we were building the new house. When we moved in I just said F-it and drilled some holes in a standing dead tree in back yard. That was last Jan. In the early fall I happen to notice them sprouting. They were very white and did not last long before bugs/ heat got them. I got some then and cooked a batch and dried a batch. I saw the were coming back the other day. They are dark and a lot more firm- almost meaty, this time. I left 3/4 of what is out there hopefully to reseed for next year.

Yep. Did you get the spawn from Fungi Perfecti?

Yes, they are good to deal with...even thou I think they eat "special" mushrooms too

I just was talking to Joe about my oysters popping up on a cut down log in the yard, no where near the size of your harvest though. I need to figure out how to get these things growing everywhere here, I love me some oysters!

Getting them to grow is easy. Keeping the phorid flies away is hole burger ballgame.

Never heard of a phorid fly, looked it up and started to say that i've never seen them either but with them being gnat size I don't guess I would have recognized them either.
