Potential for winter weather on Friday, WRAL says "maybe, maybe not, depends on temps."

Wxrisk.com (wxrisk on Facebook), my most accurate go-to, says very possible with decent accumulations in western NC.

NC Weather Authority also not very bullish.

Don't think we will see anything in southern moore county but this time of year it might be a 70 degree day or snowing. For us wral has really been off the mark for a while now. Seems to them every shower is a deluge, every thunderstorm is severe and anything over a half inch is a flood. Lol.

WRAL has had issues for a while now, for sure. I use their weather app for convenience but +/- the forecasted temp by 3 degrees so as to have a clue.

I like this tool for weather data:

Most memorable no-notice snow-"storm"...created epic memes...forecasted NO snow, but gridlocked Raleigh to Fayetteville

I was at work, my third day at new job. I put the Jeep in 4WD and hit the back roads. I made it home in normal time and arrived on time next day while most of my co-workers spent many hours on the road. Some didn't make it in the next day.

The storm that caused me more grief was 1/20/2000, Went to bed with rain, woke up to 24" the next morning. I was totally unprepared. That will not happen again!

Yes...that was an epic snow fall...I was in the field at Bragg when it hit... a grand adventure! One of those "shared hardship builds esprit de corp" events.

Back in the 90s I worked at Lowe's in Wilson. I lived about 25 miles away. A crazy snow/ice storm hit. But I took it easy in my little front-wheel-drive car I drove at the time and managed to get there at 6:55 (store opened at 7:00). There wasn't anyone in the parking lot. The manager pulled up a couple of minutes later.

We walked in just the two of us.

Then his phone started ringing like crazy with people who lived in Wilson calling in saying they couldn't come in because of the roads.

He said "BS. Dave is here and he lives out in the boonies. Get your butt in here."

I was not very popular that day.

Back on topic. You westerners hang in there. I live in Eastern NC. If we get snow accumulations it's dang near a miracle.

.... when I moved down here, my neighbor saw my snow shovels go in the garage.

She said "we don't even own a shovel".
"What do you do when it snows?" I replied.

"Stay inside. It will all melt by the next day, and no one is going anywhere anyway".

I don't miss NY.

I don't miss NY but I do miss being a kid in the NY snow belt. That's not even a storm, it's just Tuesday.

Had a similar story when we moved into our house. We moved from NE OH and pictures like the one you posted were a typical day in winter. They were unloading a snow blower from the moving truck and the general contractor was talking to us in the garage. He looked it and said, "what the hell is that thing?" My wife said, "It's a snow blower". He responded, "Seriously, what is that?" Again, she said, "It's a snow blower". He said, "Put that back on the truck, you won't need it". Well a few months later we got a good 12" snow storm over night. I fired up the snow blower and cleaned the driveway. People were driving by, pointing at me, and laughing. The next day, my driveway was clean and dry while everyone else's was a sheet of ice. I actually considered going up north in the late fall, buying a snow blower, and then when a good storm hits, offer to clean driveways for $20 and pay for the thing.

The world needs more women that wear Carhartt’s.

Yep, stayed till after 5pm put the Tundra in 4x4 took old US1 to New Hill Holloman and stayed off the interstate, no problems at all. I was home nearly at normal time.

I will say this pandemic has thrown a wrench in the office preparedness. We have proven we can work effectively from home since March. I may trade my 4x4 for a 2wheel drive now :) (Yes we are essential)

Yay! I start Asheville/Hendersonville tomorrow. Gonna be fun.

i agree.
their radar used to be my home page.
first thing (before bathroom) in the morning.

well, over the years, WRAL's weather is worse,
and NOTHING beats the bathroom these days.

I've been a remote worker since before it was cool. But a large part of my company was office based in Charlotte, W-S, or Chapel Hill. As such when the offices were closed the remote worker also got a snow day. Silly IMO but I'll take a free day off....

Since March all those people have been remote too. There goes my freaking snow day......

Government workers with CDLs push snow and lay down salt while we the private sector get a day off.
I fix the stuff they break.
We get put on twelve hour rotations "just in case". The last few times it has been watching a parking lot get rained on cause nothing froze, makes for a long boring night. When it does freeze it's a mess just to say they did something, but at least the time goes by. Personally I'd much rather be chucking snowballs at my kid than making a few extra dollars dealing with scared and/or angry people. But no one forces me to keep working there...

i'm still growing my winter beard as normal, but for the 2nd year in a row, it's feeling kind of useless...
we don't even get into the negative temperatures down here.
I'm used to shoveling my driveway and having icicles on my face.

You can always go back north if you miss it that much?

We had a couple of nights here not that long ago where it got to 8*.......my pipes froze and I had NO water for 9 days.....good thing I keep extra!

Extra pipes? 😳

Is he accurate??

Wxrisk will put out new stuff in the next bit. WRAL and NC Weather Authority starting to come together a little, WRAL still standoffish some.
Well last week it was supposed to be a total wash out starting New Year's Eve at like 9am and New Year's Day all day. It started raining something like 7am New Year's Day.

Why in the world are any of you gun owners giving wral any clicks. they can eat a bag of giant richards. they hate all gun owners.
This∆
I don't understand it either, like there's no other news sources.
Giant bags of giant richards, I says...

hearing possibly 3-5 inches on Friday - I'd love to see it, as long as thepower stays on.

The snow storm that wasn't. Nebo had more snow on the ground than Asheville. Which had almost zero when I went up today. Well, it made my drives easier.
