Does anyone els here have a legitimate love for building things from wood ? I wanted to start a thread where people can share ideas and builds for inspiration and tips and tricks here are a few things i have done recently will add pics in seperate post so i can add some details on the paticular projects . First is a repair on a marlin 336 in .44mag that took a fall out of the deer stand , it had one major split at the rear and several minor cracks in the rear tang area of the stock . I put a wooden dow is the same spot the sling swivil sits so it would not be visible when finished

Lol thats not even the nicest stuff he has a cedar tree thats about 36" wide at the base im waiting on him to get some slabs from that one . He is all the way down in fl but i teavel down there every few months

I dearly love to try....LOL! I took an original 10/22 birch stock and made it work on my 10/22 take down before wood was available for it from Ruger. It turned out about as perfect as it could have.

I've done a bit of carving over the years, nothing good enough to mention, but part of my retirement time will be making more of these...

I like big wood…. well, wait a minute. Some of you guys might misinterpret that statement….. Let me elaborate.

These three photos represent cradle to grave. The log, one of the slabs it produced, and the table made from that slab.

Top with splined corners. Splines were maple.

This is an original Morris Rocker made in 1914 by the Binghampton company which was bought out by Stickley. Story on this one, it was a wedding present for my mom's grandparents and was handed down through the family to us. In the 70s my brother and I were wrestling and broke it. "Wait till your father gets home" was a very serious threat in those days. Dad at least didn't throw it out and it sat in storage for years. Couple years back, mom developed pancreatic cancer and I had just seen that chair again so time to make amends while I could. I disassembled it, machined new parts for the broken ones, matched the stain, rebuilt the 8way tie on the springs and had new cushions made with an appropriate pattern and color palette for 1914. I had it ready on Christmas Day for her to sit in when she came home from the hospital. She cried and hugged me and it was her favorite place to sit till she passed 6mo later. It's still at my dad's house and it's willed to me when he passes.

Here's another chair I made. It's a copy of an original folding chair from the 1850s and versions of it can be seen in photographs from the Civil War.

My youngest son is a KC135 pilot in the USAF. I made this rider for his son. At the time, he was stationed at Kadena in Okinawa so I put the correct tail markings for Kadena AFB on the tail. The "boom" has a hook on it so my grandson can "tank" his Hotwheels while orbiting in the kitchen. Engine nacelles are made from the flared joint end of plastic electrical conduit.

This is a play table my older son and I made for the kids. Nothing fancy, just an oak veneer plywood top, oak banding and legs.

And since this is a gun board and some of the woodworking projects are gun related, the "cross sticks" for my rolling block are a set I copied from a picture. They are very adjustable for elevation and collapse to nearly flat.

I love the cross sticks dave951, hope you wont mind me ‘stealing’ your idea!
Hey go for it! I often see designs I like and will incorporate ideas into my own stuff. If you're going to make a set, and going to shoot some BPCR competition, we may just be squaring off at the range one day.......
