I played golf yesterday, and my riding partner Mark and I both got tokens for a small bucket of practice balls, and both filled our buckets. We then pulled down 50 yards to the range to park, and I went to my bag to pull out 6-7 clubs to take to the practice range. I looked in the floor of the cart at one bucket and looked for another bucket all around the cart. I finally asked, "Mark, did I leave my bucket of balls back under the machine?" He replied, "What's that in your left hand?" I was holding the bucket in my left hand, clubs in my right hand, looking for my bucket. We both laughed, I uttered an expletive, but a slight shiver went up my spine.
I few years ago I couldn't find my reading glasses, and looked all over for them. I finally went into the bathroom, thinking that I might have left them there after my last trip. When I looked at myself in the mirror, I was looking through my reading glasses at my image in the mirror. Dang!
Some few years before that I was talking with a friend on my cell phone while driving. I told him to hang on. I thought I had lost my phone, and looked the best I could while still driving. When he asked what was wrong, and I told him I couldn't find my phone, he said, "How are you talking to me?" Another, or the first, dang!
Are these signs of having too much on my mind, funny little screw ups, or first signs of dementia?
I have heard it said that forgetting where you put your car keys is short-term memory loss, or just memory issues. When you find your keys but don't know what they are used for, it could be dementia.
