S&W aficionados....would you make this trade? Assume equal quality. A 2.5" 19-5 (pre-lock, pinned hammer, not p/r frame) for a 34-1 4"?

Even trade.

That's a hard one. I'd probably trade just because I like the Kit Guns so well.

Not at all...A 2.5" 19 is a functional work of art that leads a double life as a nearly perfect SD/EDC piece. Modern Defensive Classic!

Nope. Not unless I had a stable of .357 Smiths and no Kit Gun.

I feel that investment wise, they may be close enough to the same value. But shooting value certainly goes to the 19. I love the kit guns too, but mainly for nostalgia sake. There are way too many better .22s out there when it comes to shooting value.

No facts, opinion only. LOL!

What draws me to the kit gun is having something for my boys.

But, the guy is proving somewhat difficult to trade with, so I may be out.

I have 4" GP100 and a 3" SP101 in .357 now, but no .22 revolvers.

Think of the boys, think of the boys, think of the fun you 3 can have with that 34.... 19's come and go but 34's don't come along all that often...... think of the boys....

I refrained from such a trade when my son was young...I had my eyes set on giving him a couple of nice handguns when he became 21 and on giving him others since then.
I found it much more fulfilling, (for both he and I) to see him receive a handgun as a right of passage into manhood. When he turned 21, I gave him an O.D Green CZ-P01 and a 4" Dan Wesson (Monson mfg) M-15, full lug. I was then able to accompany him to the LGS to help him pick out his first purchased pistol, an HK45.
Since, I traded him out of the DW, as he didn't like the trigger, so I took the DW back and gave him a S&W 686+ Mtn. Gun. This way he now has a full-size 7 shot to pair up w/ the S&W 386+ Night Guard, he purchased 4-5 yrs ago. (He and I both own 386 NGs)

A 617 10 shot 4" would be more fun for the kids. Easier to get a decent DA pull on the K frame vs the coil spring of the J frame.
Basically, a 10 shot K frame is super fun and can easily have a nice DA pull.

Excellent idea! Yeah, just keep the 19 and buy a 617...

I had an excellent 4" 617 that I foolishly traded to an unscrupulous member of this forum who may or may not have participated in this thread. He made no effort to tell me NO when I offered the 617 in trade, clearly demonstrating my lack of ability to reason.

Very nice, it looks like a M-15 Combat Masterpiece's little brother.

Nice Kit Gun. Looks like new.

I have both of my parents 34's. One is blue, the other nickel.
Neat little guns. And ideal to start new shooters on.

That's not a very nice thing to say.

That IS a very nice 34. Excellent to see a 40'ish gun in that condition. Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!! Enjoy it.
