Wow golden retrievers are expensive.

Our next dog will probably be a GSD in the 4 figure range. We tried the cheap route last year and ended up with a 6 month puppy that we had to put down after spending more money in vet bills than a champion IPO dog would cost.

That sucks. Sorry u had to go through that. My current GS was a rescue. His a big goofball, but very smart and just awesome. I grew up with GS. My parents have 2 currently. Good luck with getting a new one!

My neighbor got a high dollar German Shepherd from a well known breeder of protection dogs. His is just obedience trained. He's a great dog but at only 4 years old, he needs $4k worth of dental work!

It's stuff like that that makes me despise the American Kennel Club. "Conformation" is king, so they inbreed the hell out of these dogs & introduce all kinds of health problems. The hip dysplasia that GSDs & Golden Retrievers are known for is just one example. The European kennel clubs prize dogs that can perform "as intended", vs. meeting some arbitrary aesthetic. I have & love Dachshunds & here in the States, you gotta watch out for knee & back issues, but in Germany? Some hunters use wiener dogs to jump, run & sometimes even bay Russian boars. They don't have the cutesy super short legs & exaggerated length. Those little bastards are bred to go & go hard, so they have to be healthy. The "Breed Wardens" keep close tabs on the breeders, inspecting & approving planned breedings, certifying kennel conditions, etc. & the breeders take that very seriously.

I would love to find one. My last lab was a lab retriever mix. They grow big and other than a couple of small details look just like a lab.

Mine was 75 lbs and lean.

My neighbor breeds golden retrievers, and golden doodles. I am pretty sure his retrievers are $800 range. The doodles are $1200 ish. I think. If you want his information I will get it to you.

Shoooo....

Get on a waiting list for a Petite GoldenDoodle puppy...that'll test your trust and patience...

We've been on a list since 10/25.

My neighbor breeds golden doodles, I don't think they are the petite version. I can get you his information if you want. I don't know when his next litter is due but I don't think he had a waiting list.

Thanks but I already made a deal for a Rhodey.

My wife has wanted a golden retriever for the last 4+ years we've been together. All the ones we looked at were pretty pricey. I've only ever had rescue bully breeds.

Of course, right after we decided we would wait on a dog, a golden retriever puppy fell into our lap for $45 and a drive to Lumberton.

Meet Chloe, the golden retriever who has brought more joy into our home than I could put into words.

Chad, remember this little girl from when you came down and got the wood?

Phrasing!

I'm late to the thread, but if you were taken aback by the cost of a golden, perhaps a gold-clad retriever would fit your budget better. Please have a seat. Someone will be with you in a moment.

A buddy of mine said she looks like a relative of admiral akbar.

??? kcult did I miss where I was "taken aback by the cost of a golden"? Totally don't have a clue what you are talking about.

Triple question mark.

My comment "Phrasing" was meant for your post about giving @Chdamn the wood.

The rest was for @Chdamn. I just didn't put the @Chdamn to alert @Chdamn that I was talking about his OP.

Here’s a better picture of Peanut (I’m naming my dog Butter. That way we yell peanut butter when we want to call them both).

She has been savagely defending our home from unruly tufts of grass and rogue leaves for the past couple of days.

Peanut’s sister Butter has arrived finally. She is a week younger but already 4 times the size of peanut.

The sire of this litter is a 90 lb behemoth named Samson.

I picked this one because of her personality but she was also the largest pup in the litter.
