All the NC parks I've been at have all that verbiage, but there is a "except for concealed permit holders blah blah some statutes" right after it on the no-weapons line. WRAL just simplified the sign and mis-reported. I'm sure the cut-n-paste intern figured it wasn't important.

Like anyone with good sense would ride to that section of town, park their vehicle, and walk around without proper defense.

I’d treat it like a gunbuster at the mall. With all the respect it deserves.

I didn’t see any sign
I'm pretty sure i saw a sign last year.

not a lot of mischief to make in a field of sunflowers... anywhere you gotta walk around in this heat out in the open air with no shade and spaced out from eachother there's a good chance nobody is going to bother you. Now up at the other end with the swings sculptures and and what not... that may be a different story.

I sent their news desk in box an email with the Raleigh Parks and Greenways rules with the NCGS section highlighted. For a long while after statue became law, Raleigh Parks and Rec would not change the gun buster on their park entrance signs. Some were blotted out by anonymous persons while some signs had the gun buster sanded off. We used to walk or ride a Greenway trail everyday. I never felt uncomfortable except around the put in on Poole Rd. There is another Greenway section near Walnut creek that some folks call the Wino Jungle but we never went there.

Thats because it wasn't conspicuous, which is required for it to have any effect.
uh... i got news for you... it is surprisingly easy to walk right past even the most conspicuous signs without obeying them. so i am told.

Who gives a rats arse what WRAL says?

I'd get my information from a panoply of cows woven together into a collosal pipe-organ of flatulence before I'd take WRALs word on anything.

There's liars, damn liars and then there's journalists for legacy media.

It's just pablum for their readers / viewers. One thing I have noticed is that libruls don't leave their echo chamber because they fear exposure to what they've been told is misinformation. So WRAL (We Really Are Librul) is just spewing "no guns allowed" and their idiot NPC minions will nod their heads and believe it while feeling good.

I've never heard of Dix Park. Is it in the ghetto?

I read this in a Rockingham county British accent.

Well the point is we have to call them on their "misinformation".

Folks here should already know better, WRAL don't care and they certainly aren't going to correct everything or stop being the worst sort of yellow dog liars.

But you do you my dude.

For the natives around here, Dix Park was the sight of the Dorothea Dix Mental Hospital. The first mental health hospital in the state. It was affectionately called Dix Hill around here. As in, boy they gonna ship you off to Dix Hill.

I married a girl with that maiden name.

I've been to Dix Hill many, many times.

Full plate carrier, rifle and handgun minimum iirc.
Some of the area around it has been developed, Centennial Campus, then bordered by Western Blvd (Central Prison across the street), and Lake Wheel Road, but there are some very old, low income areas around there.

There’s not many places I’m willing to go without a firearm. It’s not one of them.

DHHS has offices still on Dix campus. I used to go there all the time for various employment related reasons. I drove past the signage on occasion. I rarely noticed it.

every time I imagine myself with some sort of skill as a wordsmith, all I have to do is log on and read a post or two of yours and I am aware that I was born yesterday and know nothing. I bow. :)
Love your stuff, you crusty Brit.

Who pays attention to what WRAL says?
For better or worse, lots of folks. They have quite the viewership. First affiliate network station to go digital. They have their own tile/app/channel on Roku. They have a national if not international foot print. We were on an international cruise 20 yrs (?) ago and one of about 12 stations on the ships broadband feed was WRAL.

I noticed this in Aruba back in the day. They used to be the CBS affiliate for Satellite America.

I am not crusty. I got ointment.

It's a park for the wolfpack college kids. Huge place. Some big field where people fly RC planes and launch rockets. Kite flying, etc. Really nice park. They have a pop-up disc golf course there every year.

It's about as far from "dangerous" as you can imagine.
