I watched a little WWF when I was very young. Back then we knew it was fake, but we could deceive ourselves that at least some of it was real because we didn't have that much exposure to real fighting - there was no MMA, and boxing was totally different and not applicable. And for sure the theatrics appeal to young kids.

I get going to WWE with your young kids. But there are teenagers and men who are fans. I don't get it. Watch a little MMA and WWE becomes an unbearable cringefest.

Remember when Ronda Rousey was armbar-ing everybody and their mama in the octagon? Here's the WWE "armbar" (prepare to cringe hard) - skip to 3:10 mark:

Kinda reminds me of some shoulder rehab a PT performed to *relieve* pain, not cause it.

Can someone 'splain the appeal of the WWE to males over the age of 11?

The “actors” are amazing athletes capable of doing unbelievable things with their bodies but everyone knows most of the show is scripted and is not a “fight” show but an entertainment program. It’s kinda like a gymnastic soap opera, people are watching the story. I’m not a fan myself anymore but I enjoyed the “Rock” years as he was a great entertainer.

"...'splain the appeal of the WWE..."
1. it's acting. like Dwayne Johnson as Hercules or The Rock. people watch movies/plays/wrestling.
2. it's "the show", too. what happens before and outside the ring. like Nascar fly-overs. part of the appeal.
3. finally, hot women in skimpy clothes.

I loved it until the mid 2000s or so. After stone cold, the rock, DX, and some others faded out i just lost interest. By this time i was also in my mid 20s, so i may have just grown out of it. Ive tried to watch it a couple in recent years......but i just cant get into it.

Had a guy at work take vacation days, air fare, hotel, and $300 ish for ticket in Nawlens. No way I'm forking out that kind of money for men in tights.

When Johnny Weaver stopped wresting I stopped watching.

I remember when he and George Becker would regularly lose to the bad guys on TV on Saturday (which was free), and vowing to get their revenge on Monday night in Park Center (which was not free). I often wondered if the script writers were paid as well as the wrestlers.

All I know is that Wahoo McDaniel (I think that's his name) had a smoking hot daughter. They used to shop at the Harris Teeter I worked at in HS.

When Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kane, Undertaker and Goldberg stop opening a can of whoop butt..I stop watching. 5th grade, 1998 or something like that.

Watched it every Saturday when I was a kid...back then it was NWA...National Wrestling Alliance.

Ric Flair, Wahoo McDaniel, The 'Mehican Dream Duthty Rothdes, The Road Warriors, Ronnie Garvin, Magnum TA, Tully Blanchard, Ole and Arn Anderson, Ivan and Nikita Koloff, Don Kernodle, Jimmy 'Boogie Woogie Man' Valiant, Junkyard Dog....

Good times.:)

I'll add Ken Patera and Super Fly Jimmy Snuka.

Don't forget Ricky Steamboat, Jay Youngblood, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Iron sheik, Black Jack Milligan, Abdula, Kabuki.

First time I visited NC, my friend took me to a bar. Buncha people going crazy and gambling so I asked "what's this action on?". My friend replied "wrestling".

Took a few years before I was willing to come back.

I ran into the Italian Stallion in the bar at a bowling alley in Rockingham, NC in the early 90s.

We were just chatting a little until the bartender (a gorgeous blond gal and his girl friend) brought me my beers. I paid and went to grab them when he shook the tip jar in my face. I threw a couple of bucks in there for her. He set the jar down, took the money out and immediately shoved them in the video poker machine.

Seemed like a real winner.

It's soap opera for men. Scripted or not, those are athletes. They earn their money too... I grew up watching it. I don't anymore but I understand the appeal if you don't take it too seriously. Hell with fixing going on in major sports it's not like it's even that fake... Beats CNN...

Did anyone catch GLOW in Netflix?

Yeah. It was actually pretty good. Just a great doc on Andre the Giant on HBO too...
