Yaphet Frederick Kotto was an American actor known for numerous film roles, as well as starring in the NBC television series Homicide: Life on the Street as Lieutenant Al Giardello. His films include the science-fiction/horror film Alien, and the Arnold Schwarzenegger science-fiction/action film The Running Man. He played Mr. Big in the James Bond film Live and Let Die, 1973. Coincidence in virtually all SCI-FI moves, the black actor always dies.

I loved him on Alien, also Homicide life on the street.
I did not realize he was as old as he was.

Great Bond villain, stole almost every scene he was in.
"..at any cost..any..Bond must die.."

Dr. Kananga.

Live and Let Die was a great Bond flick.
Yaphet Kotto always said he loved it when people would recognize him and say Dr. Kananga!

RIP

I'm still a bit confused, however: you mean there was someone else in Live and Let Die other than Jane Seymour?
Second best looking Bond girl after Diana Rigg!

Just read he was offered the parts of Lando Calrissian and Captain Picard but turned them down because he didn't want to be type cast.

I might concede the first: I'm a Diana Rigg fan too. Beauty in different ways, perhaps.

That's pretty interesting about the two roles Mr. Kotto turned down. Christopher Plummer was also averse to "leading man" roles for similar reasons if I recall correctly.

Another great actor recently lost.

Kotto would've been an intriguing Picard, certainly more energetic and masculine.

Thanks for the memories
Rip mr kotto
