Yet another prayer request....

7th round of chemo and the last of this segment is done and she's still doing great!
Not sure what it's going to feel like to only have 2 appointments per week for the next 3 weeks.
She starts the second segment of chemo on July 24th.

Crap comes in 3's....

My sister is having a 3rd round of scans done for a spot found on her liver.

My dad, in his mid 80's and diabetic, fell three times this week. No major injuries but they found 3 healing broken ribs from the last fall that I knew about.
His blood sugar was 300!

Found all of this out through the back door, as apparently "we have enough going on".

I have a very good relationship with my 3 siblings, and they meant well, but I had to inform them that I want to be kept in the loop on everything no matter what me and the wife are going through!

and they meant well,
Arg. I feel ya; I eed to know what's up with my people, regardless of how good or bad things are with me!

Glad your wife has done so well with Round 1.

Yer still on the list for Round 2 and your other kin.

Good news....sister's PET scan of her liver was clear!

Bad news....the wife got a fever of 101.0 yesterday. We were instructed to call the triage nurse for anything over 100.5 so we did.
They told us to go to the ER and expect at least a 24 hour Hospital stay.
We go...ER is PACKED but they give us priority. EKG, chest x-ray, and all sorts of IV drips. Hospital has no rooms available, and she got stuck on a gurney in the hall of section ER/C, right in front of three ER rooms that were housing real head-banding nut jobs!
Were were there in that hall from 7 pm till 2:30 am. then finally put into an ER room until 10:30 this morning. Temp went down, they added a 4th antibiotic, and we went home.

What a ride!

Glad your sis is ok. Sorry to hear about the hospital ride, but glad you're home and she's on the mend. Cancer treatments do a number on one's resistance, so good on you for taking care of it despite the hardship.

I don't suppose there's a different hospital w/in quick-ish driving distance? Might be worth it to explore options if another place is less chaotic.

There is. Laurens Hospital is in the same network, and about 30 minutes closer, but we'd heard that their ER isn't up to par.
We've had very good service in Greenville, but hadn't been to their ER till yesterday. In their defense they were jam packed
in the ER yesterday. Not so bad this morning.
I tried sleeping in the chair, in the floor, and leaning agains't her bed last night....nothing was even close to comfortable, but it wasn't about me.
I was ill prepared, never thought about them having a metal detector at the ER entrance. Had 3 sets of keys, knife, cigar cutter, 3 lighters,
her overnight bag, and my backpack. Everything had to be gone through.

Glad your sister is doing ok, and hopefully the wife will be on the mend quickly.
Do you use Prisma Health? Couple of years back, wife had a surgery at Prisma Health (not ER situation) and doctors/staff were helpful.

Yes. Prisma in Greenville and Laurens. Everybody has been great, her oncologist is top rated, just didn't like the atmosphere
of the ER.

Me with the oncologist today. went over a chart based on all of her recent tests. Her MDS is as bad as it can get short of Leukemia.
They chart included a life expectancy showing her MDS VS Leukemia "IF" left untreated. Leukemia....9 months, her MDS....12 months.
Again...this is if she wasn't undergoing treatment. Doc won't give a "with treatment" prognosis until after the marrow transplant and subsequent tests.
Her blood count keeps dropping dangerously low, but that's what the chemo is doing. The only issue that's unwanted is her Hemoglobin.
It's so low that she's been scheduled for a blood transfusion tomorrow. 2 units of blood means 4 hours in the recliner.
Doc was pissed that the hospital didn't keep her another night. The ER oncologist told her that "she looks great"....to which or doc said "yes and I'm trying to keep her that way!"
Doc also said that 80% of her patients spend two weeks in the Hospital for the chemo treatment that my wife just completed, so that's a major plus due to her otherwise great health.

Damn this roller coaster!
Back to the ER late yesterday. Fever of 102 this time. More tests, CT scan this time....this confirmed what she's been telling them. Diverticulitis.
Finally got into a regular room at 3 am this morning. She'll be here at least one more night, maybe two.
Platelets are a little low, if they continue to drop she'll need another transfusion.

Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery. My mother had diverticulitis that ended in a perforated bowel, and it was definitely a painful experience.

Update
She had a pretty good week last week. Low energy, but able to be outside doing what she loves, with restrictions.

Woke up one morning with a sore left jaw, didn't think much of it, but then the left ear started hurting. Then yesterday was pretty much zero energy, stayed in bed all day. Temp got to 101.0 but went back down eventually. High this morning has been 100.1.
Called the triage nurse as the jaw/ear pain persists. They called in yet another antibiotic. Still no energy today.

I learned something....I'm not as prepared as I thought I was. We'd let a few things go undone as she was feeling good last week and we did some fun things, then all of the sudden "I" had to step up and take care of everything. It was a bit overwhelming to say the least.

If you guys want an eye opener.....do everything that your wife typically does for 2 days!

Mine loves to cook, clean, and garden, and right now she can't do anything. Yesterday I scrubbed the floors, did laundry (wrong), took her temp every 30 minutes, washed dishes, cleaned all the rugs, and cleaned/disinfected the bathrooms. I was ill prepared for all of it.
Shame on me for having to spend so much time just trying to find where everything that I needed was to get the jobs done!
I'm much better at being the handyman and shade tree mechanic, where I know where all of the tools and supplies are.

She's scheduled for her second bone marrow biopsy tomorrow, may have to reschedule that.

I was supposed to head back to Asheville today to give my brother at the shop a chance for a vacation all next week, that can't happen now.

Just saw the July 2 post; sorry to hear she's under the weather.

You're doin' fine! Good husbands rise to the challenges. As long as you're taking care of her (and you), the laundry can shrink or turn pink.

Sending another message upstairs for y'all. Hang tough.

You sir, are a good husband.

She went back in the hospital the 18th....and she's still here.

Started not being able to keep food down Tuesday morning, then the 102.8 fever came.

This is still a Diverticulitis issue, and a CT scan found an abscess on her colon. Fever has been on/off all week, and now
she has swelling and redness around where the first two IV's were.

The gastro team said they would have already been in to remove the abscess, but can't due to her cancer unless it becomes
a life or death issue.

She's been on major IV antibiotics non stop for five days, but the fever just keeps coming back.
Her Oncologist came by today to let her know that all cancer treatments are on hold until they figure this out. The longer she goes with treatment the more likely it is that her cancer could develop into Leukemia.

Very frustrating when the fever goes down and then comes right back up. Which happens several times per day.

"If" her temp returns to normal, the next step is a colonoscopy to get a good look at the abscess. After that they will decide whether or not to operate. Any operation at this point is high risk for infection, which could kill her. Then again, the abscess could do the same.

Prayers for you both. This is a tough row for sure.

Larry, a prayer is up brother.

I hate to hear this, some how I missed the original thread. Prayers for you both and for continued strength.

So sad to see a young asian lady, maybe college age, had braces....there for a chemo
port infusion BY HERSELF!

I know she’s already told ya, but I guarantee going to the treatments with her means more to her than you’ll ever know.👍

Our daughter has the day off, so she's giving me a break. The hospital is 45 minutes from our home so it has been easier just to stay with her.
I was pretty much forced to come home today, since I haven't showered in four days....nobody wanted me to hang around for a 5th...LOL!

Thank you all for the thoughts and prayers....much appreciated!

10th day in the hospital, 42 hours without a fever, which is a record for this stay.
Her arms are so wasted from IV's and blood draws that they have a warning sign on her door to not use the BP cuff
on her arms.
Both arms were scanned with ultrasound to check for blood clots yesterday, both legs scanned today.

Massive rash on her belly and back from one of the "new" antibiotics. Luckily they only itch a little

They've stopped 2 out of 3 IV antibiotics, trying to wean her off of them. Blood was sent out for a super duper test
to make sure there's absolutely no sign of infection. Won't get those results till early next week.

Larry,
You guys are in my thoughts and prayers.
Ron

Praying for you both every day.

I understand the fear and can only tell you to have faith and hold on to each other.

The first time I went through chemo (2005) a young lady of 23 was being infused for hr breast C. She was wearing a dew rag so her hair was already gone and when I struck up conversation with her I found out this was her SECOND time. She had already received a double mastectomy before the chemo she got 2 and 1 half years earlier. The battle is personal. The Lord deals with us all in the way he sees fit. Be kind, God bless you both!

Second round of chemo started today, four weeks behind schedule.

On top of that....we were on our way to the cancer center and got rear ended. Lady was wearing flip-flops and they caught
on the carpet and caused her to hit the gas. Damage looked simple....two lower rear plastic valance panels was the only damage.
We came back home and swapped cars because one of them was wedged against the tail pipe.

Got back and found that the spare tire well under the floor of the hatchback got crushed, can't get the spare out, so there's more than
meets the eye.

Hate it for you, but you got it started. Keep fighting the fight, all the best to you and your bride.

Larry...can I hep in any way with your car? I'm not too far away and happy to do whatever.
Thanks @Tim , but it's drivable. Has a little rattle but I think the tail pipe got bumped, maybe a support knocked sideways. I can put my foot on it and the rattle goes away.
Thanks for the offer though! Much appreciated!
