Watch this then comment. Things are not as they seem. The Matrix is more real than we realize.

Lost me about 3 minutes in when they focused on 'liberal democrats' as the folks who use us and want our tax money.
Face it - BOTH SIDES USE US. BOTH SIDES WANT OUR MONEY.
With 11 minutes to go I said 'F it"
Those with an abiding need to reject harsh truths, will find their reasons. Taxation is theft, regardless the mafia's "side".

This is a re-telling of Molyneux's Story of Your Enslavement. And a good 'un, @Lawless

Edit to add: I'd take small exception to narrator's mistaking "capitalism" for cronyism, but a quibbling hardly worth note.

The concept that "free" people are actually just slaves or a part of the machine that extracts wealth and power from our very life force and labor, is hard to accept. It all is a carefully crafted thing, great care taken to keep the working masses happy and productive so the slugs who live off of our very lives can "vote" to keep the system's biggest ruse going.... The lie that you have a say.

The only way it changes is if it ALL is torn down. ALL wiped like a bleach soaked rag on a bar top. Scorched earth, or it returns later.

e) You and your friends will not somehow overcome a trend that has been present in all of recorded human history. I hate to say it, but it’s true. All your flags and camo gear and standing at rallies will not change the cycle of all humanity. If every single empire that has ever stood ended in 250 years at the most, what in God’s green earth makes you so arrogant as to think that you will somehow be the exception to the rule? Oh, that’s right — you have God on your side, yes? That’s the difference? Here’s the brutal truth. Solomon’s empire was the strongest, richest, and even wisest of all. He had everything, including the blessing of the Almighty, and his countrymen thrived under his rule — until that sentence you see over and over in Old Testament era history: “Every man did what was right in his own eyes.” That sentence always signaled the end, because it means the society in question had reached the age of decadence. And it always comes — because humans are all the same.

Spot on.

Agreed. So where do we go from here would be the question. Knowing that we may be in the twilight of our republic, what do each of us do to ensure our survival and potential prosperity? Every downfall see's at least one group of profiteers getting rich off of another groups decline. If a bright person knows which fork in the proverbial road to take, they could be well set in the coming turbulence. Predictive investing can be dangerous.

I didn't mean the quote to stand alone, just to lead folks to the article. Kit had some good advice there, to which I'll add, the more independence there is from central authority, the better off any group of people or individuals will fare.

In my opinion, the states (and likewise individuals) who are wedded most closely to the leviathan will get dragged down with it, when it sinks. That's why I think some separation might insulate states or regions from the worst of the meltdown. Split off the Appalachian Mountain range as my new country, and we'll do just fine. Alas, that hope is an unlikely pipe dream.

It'll sound trite, but the only thing worth "predictive investing" is your own mind, home, kinfolk, and neighborhood. Become as independent as possible; secede in your own little ways. Get out of debt now. Be, or become, indispensable to your tribe, or at least worth keeping around.

Or don't. Because that's just this man (me) doing what's right in his own eyes.

I agree.

Small, local groups that invest time and energy into the basic survival items and skills. Much harder for bad seeds to infiltrate and much easier to develop a chemistry with smaller groups. Of course you can always cooperate with other groups, but keep it small and tight.

When the collapse comes the only thing that will survive is some of the weird bacteria that lives off the sulfur vents at the bottom of the sea or in the molten pits of volcanoes. But we still have 5 billion years before the sun blows up so evolution will start once more with what will be the new primordial soup. Considering what we as a species have done to the planet in such a short period of time (less than 20,000 years) I expect that will will not survive to reach the 100,000 year mark. And that is a pretty damn short lifespan for any species. So, for those of you who think you can survive the holocaust of global collapse (and it will be nuclear!) good luck.

Prepping 001 is learning how to plant with a sharp stick and then using it to stab some meat. When a neighbor comes to take the meat, you stick him with it too, unless he has left his stick at home and is smiling and your cave mate was good to you the night before. Then it's ok to share if you want . If he looks at your meat or your cave mate with lustful eyes before he leaves, gather large throwing stones and sharpen a few sticks. If he never does that, ask him to join you for a hunt, share the meat, then you can go see what he has in his cave ;)

I'm just going to give him my cave mate so there is more meat for me. He can have her. :p

How deep does the rabbit hole go? What is the root of the problem? the solution? and what can be done about it?

Men ruling of men never comes to any good.....and by the taxation is THEFT!!!!!!

There's no "Rabbit Hole". There may have been something like one at some point, but it was filled in a while back. Finding the root, produces it's solution, and is it's own reparation. There is, has been, and forever will be, only one reparation, solution, and root and only one man on earth who can be held responsible for those. That's YOU. Change your own life, without the cost of another. In finding your truth, you will still be taxed. It'll be a different sort of tax though. You'll be far to busy to share it enough for anyone to turn it into a movement, group, community, gathering, club, fellowship, town, state, nation or religion.

This (video) goes hand in hand with the book I've mentioned several times, The Most Dangerous Superstition, which points out that if people stop believing in the "authority" of the "government" and act accordingly the system will collapse on its own.

It is really frustrating having "woken up" and realizing that you're in the minority, a minority way to small to collapse the system. This leaves you the choice of "confirm, consume, obey" and begrudgingly pay things like taxes on your property or trying to go "off, off grid" (another great book by Michael Bunker) and being prepared to make the crown's agents pay dearly when the inevitable result of them trying to extract the tithe from you under duress occurs.

If you don't think you're a slave, just try to not be part of the society that is being milked. The farmer will show up to slaughter you right quick.

There is another way, be in the system but not of the system. Use it to get yourself in good position but do not let it control you. Making yourself a target when certain defeat is the sure outcome might seem noble, but who will take care of your family when you rot in prison or a grave. The smart money is on being grey on the outside. Look like the rest of the sheep, do sheep things when necessary, be a different animal inside and work to undermine at every opportunity.

Tribe Tribe Tribe
Local Local Local
Stay Away From Crowds.

You will not sway or win anyone or anything standing in the street. This is NOT 1774 and people are no longer able to hear truth and recognize it. The only folks you can affect are those with whom you have a relationship.

I tried, I did, but my attention span isn't good. ADD?

I am going to disagree with part of a very old post by @OverMountainMan, in part because it’s Friday night! If you think you see the end coming, then don’t pay off debt, borrow all you can and buy things you will need. Who will come to collect after the collapse?

FWIW I have a different view of SHTF. We aren’t just going to collapse, we are going to be conquered. If you’re unhappy about taxation today, you’re not going to be any happier once we lose the war. I presume that social programs will disappear and the poor, old, weak will leave us quickly. There may be a violent period of a few years, but the new government will need productivity to pay for the war effort and will not care nearly as much as America does about civilian casualties.

Will the war be nuclear, maybe. If nuclear weapons are used tactically then we’ll be around to deal with things, if it gets out of hand then no amount of preparation will save us.

The other SHTF scenario I worry about is an economic shift that pushes inflation way up. We’ve had lots of discussions about this so I won’t rehash them here.

I agree with some of what you said about us being conquered in that I believe the US will no longer be a super power. It could be caused by an attack, economic collapse or maybe a civil war of sorts....I think I lean hardest towards economic collapse, followed closely by an attack from another nation.

Have you considered civil war or at least factions shooting at each other and being supported by foreign powers?

You mean like what the Muslims are doing? A LOT of their funding comes from outside this country. Or possibly some of the organized/funded protests, only getting violent? Yes, I've thought about that.

Which is why it’s important that if, or rather when, sections of the nation petition for a divorce that it be allowed to happen, peaceably. The alternative is messy. Some say this was tried once. That doesn’t mean it shouldn’t or won’t be tried again, but also consider that last time there weren’t ICBM nukes and bombers. If the answer to divorce papers is no, it is possible that whole areas may become uninhabitable in reply.
