TL : DR
Google was ordered to hand over: names, addresses, telephone numbers, user activity and IP addresses of folks that viewed certain videos.
The authors are are unable to tell if they complied, but this does not seem to be the first time they requested such data.
And, of course' Google cares about your privacy and does the upmost to protect it [/sarcasm]

Say Google didn't comply, what is to stop the government from paying for that data under the guise of being an advertiser?
Don't even need a warrant for that option
They probably already do this 🤷‍♀️

The videos were sent by undercover police to a suspected cryptocurrency launderer under the username "elonmuskwhm."
Notice the language, launderer. Dollars to donuts says this is about tax revenue.

Oh and Google is learning, the best logs are the ones you don’t have because then there is nothing to turn over.

The government wants their cut, no doubt.

I agree that the best logs are no logs but that defeats their goal of $$ off advert stuff
