You've been outbid at GunBroker.com for Item...

I never understood why people get into a bidding war 9 days before the auction expires, just driving up the bid...

I always put a potential item on my watch list and wait until about 30 minutes before the bid expiry to place a bid. If the price has been driven too high, I move on.

Yep, like @rdinatal said usually it's an impulse buy. One time, I was searching for a shotgun. I had looked at so many my head was hurting so when I went to bid, I screwed up and bid on the wrong one. I was so happy when someone came in at last minute and sniped me! Had they been close by I would have bought them a cup of coffee LOL.

Am I the only one that received this message and thought, “Oh, thank you Jesus!”

Yep. Far better than the "Congratulations, you won this item!" email(s) they send you for things you can't even remember bidding on. Whoops.

I think I posted on here about one of those experiences awhile back.

Been there many times. GB, Ebay etc

I still don't understand buying anything on GB. Half the items I look at cost more initially than I can find them locally where I can actually inspect them. Then you pay between 3-6% using a credit card (unless you love snail mail, standing in line at USPS smelling other people's body odor while waiting on a money order, then waiting 7-10 days for said item to ship. Then you pay your FFL for the privilege of receiving your package only to find they've already opened it and finger-farked it so you can't really refuse or return it.

Eff that entire process.

From my experience, GunBroker isn't good for things like buying current releases and stuff that is generally well stocked. It is good for finding things that are more on the rare side that we would have to shop around and >maybe< then find.

Like Marlin 39As that are considered 'Custom Shop' fodder from the current Remlin factory?
Yeah. Starting prices at $800, sellers averaging 3% CC fees plus $45 shipping plus FFL fee. I might as well cruise every gun show and pawn shop in NC for one.

I get it, it's the worlds biggest gun store, but the credit card fees and exorbitant shipping costs ruined me ever buying anything from there again.

Good.

Yeah, it has happened to me many times.

Happened recently on a Colt Expanse rifle (that was listed as a 6920). I put in a lowball bid one evening while enjoying an adult beverage or two, and then it looked like I was going to win it. I was groaning inside, and then got the blessed email that someone else was going to get that piece of crap for a bargain price. FTW!

Has also happened to me when I was bidding on a couple of the same item in the hopes of winning one. Then it looked like I was going to win both. Then someone saved me at the last minute on one of them!

Then, there was the time or three when I did win both....

Buyer's Remorse, even before you've bought it. :D
I'm sure there are plenty of regular buyer's remorse stories where you happily won, but regretted it later. I know I have. Kinda like going to the grocery store hungry and when you get home you wonder why you bought all that crap.

Or you could get a gun for $241 with $20 shipping and no credit card fees, that was not available from your LGS' wholesaler, but was at Bass Pro for $534 OTD. :D

Be a careful shopper!

Or I just do the same thing at my tabletop FFL and pay his cost plus 10%

Never have had buyer's remorse But I have had seller's remorse. GB is great for older collectables. Triplelocks, RMs, 5 screws, Pre-mods, Hand Ejectors, SAAs.
Have never had a bad experience buying and only one with a non-payer with Buyer's remorse I suppose.

I only use buy it now on GB, got some magazines used from two different sellers, I use sellers that have high trades and don't charge more for a credit card, then I use the seller with lowest ship or free ship if I but a few more things I need.
Just got a S&W 4006 .40 CHP police trade in, no surcharge and $12 shipping via usps to my lgs.:)

Your FFL opens packages that are C/O for transfers?

You have to be a cautious shopper. If you spend a little bit of time you can find sellers that don't charge credit card fees. Shipping is another issue where they try to slide one in on you. I am fortunate and don't have FFL fees, my gun club has FFL and doesn't charge members any transfer fees. With all that said since I live out in the middle of nowhere by the time I drive to a gun shop, sometimes I come out much better going the GB route.

Not GB but eBay, yes. I bought a dirt bike this way haha. It was so cheap and 90min away from me I just bid for fun. Surprise surprise when I won it a week later. This was 10yr ago and haven’t done that since.

Funny, I switch between this and email regularly on my phone, so my phone was sitting there and I saw this thread title out of the corner of my eye and thought it was email and had a similar reaction, although one of relief!

Yesterday, I made an offer on a gun on Armslist. The seller agreed and we planned to meet after work today. Afterward, I was not too excited about the purchase but, I made the offer and I would go ahead and buy it. This morning when I turned on my phone I had a text message saying sorry but I have decided to keep it. Yay! This will save me some money and I'm not upset at all.

Always gotta have it when you place your bid then you are relieved when someone out bids you.
If it's something I want I will bid my max amount then let 'er land where she lands.
Also I try to buy from guys that don't charge cc fees and have cheap or free shipping.
