Update....
The wife's transplant has been cleared by her cardiologist, pulmonary doc, and gastro doc.
This weeks bone marrow biopsy shows that she is ready for the procedure.
Just got word that everything is a go, starting Wednesday May 22.
She'll go in at 8am to have the chest port installed, and then start the major chemo the following day.
6 days of chemo and then the actual bone marrow transplant on the 7th day.
This was supposed to have happened in August of 2023, but there have been several not so enjoyable
delays. Lots of overwhelming emotional relief mixed with a dose or two of fear as this is a life threatening
procedure.
She'll be in the hospital for roughly 6 weeks if all goes well.
Thank God for decent insurance! This event alone is estimated at $1.1 million! All of last year was just shy of $100k, likely
the same for thus far this year. The itemized bill last year showed a 46% discount to the insurance company!
Our max out of pocket is $9700 per person per year, which we can handle, and typically hit that
at week 3 of care. Some of these meds are $542 per pill !!!!!
There will never be a cure for cancer....the hospitals would go bankrupt.
