Wuhan, nCV, germs....

Hmmmm..... 100 pounds white rice, 50 pounds pintos, 5 cases MRE, new freezer, 150lb bread flour. 50lb soybeans, 250lb kibble for the pups. Four cases toilet paper, three gallons Titos Vodka and some of that delicious old smokey shine. 20lb pistachios. new propane generator. another 250 gal propane tank. Steel I beams for barricades, extra welding rods, another oxy and gas tank..........

This was my shopping list at Food Lion tonight.

Who’s crazy now, huh? Huh?

Bring some stuff just in case, but as I've been pointing out in this thread, we are not seeing community outbreaks in any countries near the equator ... the warmth/humidity help decrease transmission risk in case someone in the hotel traveled from an affected area.

So... you're saying that the cure for coronavirus is global warming?

I won't lie. I'm horribly addicted to coffee. But in a world of post-outbreak scarce resources, it will be the first thing I have to give up.
My plan is to go cold turkey when it pops off. I'll probably wind up crippled by withdrawal migranes and constipation and then just sleep for the first day or three.
Once I function again, I'll reassess, but most of the drama during that period will happen closer to town...

On the topic of testing, S. Korea is testing 15,000 people a day. Yet America has only tested ~500 people, yet there are over 10,000 under observation. Hmmm
Apparently they are somewhat limited by the technology used to test for it here in the US. There are supposedly better methods used in other countries but the vaulted FDA hasn’t blessed it for use in the US. At least that’s what the talking heads said this morning.

Every patient admitted to an ICU gets an anal swabbing on admission now....

When I worked acute Rehab a few years ago every patient that was admitted to the floor got swabbed for MRSA (nares swabs and incision swabs if they had an incision) and VRE (rectal swabs) as well as having a urinalysis done. During casual conversation I've heard more than once physician say that if they swabbed all health care people they wouldn't be surprised if 50% of us had MRSA. With everything being antibacterial nowadays it's no wonder all these "super bugs" are on the rise. That coupled along with antibiotics being over prescribed.

On a side note:
We have a vet hospital and I do the ordering of supplies-
No mask at 4 of 5 suppliers, 1 had a 1 box per limit
Back ordered some meds or had to get small bottles: pred. 20mg- normal 1000 or 5000 ct bottles, only 100 ct available and at higher price
Fox News said SC port is receiving 25% less cargo vs last year: and this year imports # have been up.
Germany companies have reported sending single guys with “briefcases” to China to get critical components for manufacturing...

I ordered 2 boxes of N95 mask for work about 6 weeks ago. Yesterday I tried ordering 4 more boxes (not cases) along with the usual mask we give patients with flu symptoms. Manager told me yesterday the hospital will not be sending us the N95 mask as the hospital is being limited in how many they receive.

I heard that also. I find it hard to believe. Maybe it’s because you can’t have an epidemic if you don’t test anybody... Sounds like the tactic China used/ is using.

I try to avoid using all the antibacterial soaps. I also couldn't tell you the last time I've been prescribed antibiotics. It's been at least 20 years.

What's the thought process here?

Seriously, I'd like to know.

“What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger”

Works for bacteria too. You kill the weak ones, and the strong ones get stronger.

Best to just be one with the bacteria and keep your immune system healthy.

I ate a lot of dirt as a kid, and I’ve been very healthy.

100%

Your skin has good bacteria just like the soil does.

Its basically the same as not using Sevin dust in the garden and yard so liberally because you kill the bees and other along with the pests.

I wash my hands with soap. Ask the 3rd world what clean water and soap does for your standard of living

This. Over-exposure/use of antibacterials leads to resistance. VRE= vancomycin-resistant enterococcus. MRSA= Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. MDRO= Multidrug-Resistant Organisms. Plain soap and water is just fine for washing your hands for routine task. The soap does not have to be antibacterial. On a side note (and since I couldn't reorder them for work yesterday) I stopped by my local Walmart and Lowes to see if they had any N95 mask in stock. None available. The deparment manager at Walmart told me the system would not let her order any. If you look on Lowes website it says not available online and to check in store. These mask are drying up quicker than ammo in 2013.

I had a teacher in high school that claimed eating boogers would effectively immunize you. Try it and let us know if it works. :p

The US government has very extreme testing standards for medical products before they can be approved for public use. Normally, those standards ensure a high degree of protection to the public. During times when things need to happen quickly, those requirements become a hindrance.

As one of our former prestigious members always said, "Work in the water treatment industry, and after the 1st year you will never be sick a day in your life"

Got a buddy that just started in that industry, he was sick almost every week, but now he says he feels as strong as a Brahma Bull.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Mentally, it's the same as you get to where you HNMF2G and physically your body develops antibodies.

Except for Ebola, BV and Crazy Women. Those are the real killers.

Took me a couple of years to get all the biobooger diseases and immunization shots when I started at Forsyth Hospital in 1990.

Just an update from Thursday to Friday data:

Johns Hopkins CSSE report:
  • Iran: 245 388 cases, 26 34 deaths, 49 73 recoveries
  • Italy: 655 888 cases, 17 21 deaths, 45 46 recoveries
Somebody needs to find out how Iran is healing people so quickly.

Had to run over to Rocky Mount and stopped in at Tractor Supply, Lowes, Walmart and Harbor Freight. None had any mask in stock. I use the mask when I clean my chicken coop. Stopped by Advance Auto and picked a 2 pack up. I was talking about this to a coworker (had a meeting in Rocky Mount) and he said he had heard of people buying them to sell them at a big mark up. He also said one of the clinics in Rocky Mount had to move the mask (the ones given to patients with flu symptoms. Not the N95 ones) because people were walking in and taking the whole box and then walking out.

I have some P100 masks for the ultra low price of $59.99 each if you are interested. Lmao

Nothing like a good media pandemic story to slow the economy and change the political landscape. Until strong, healthy people in the US start dropping dead frequently I call BS. Gonna go eat boogers, touch public urinals and live life.

The mask thing is going crazy. My wife just checked, out of curiosity and she couldn't source them anywhere. Uline has cut off orders to anyone except previous customers that have ordered them before. Our first line defense is isolation. We'll just stay home and avoid outside contact. Of course, I just checked and verified the location and operation of my work environment respirator and a couple sets of replacement P95 filters. ;)

On hand washing.... Along with VRE, MRSA and others, I was regularly exposed to C. diff (Clostridium difficile) when I worked at a hospital (8years) CDiff is another nasty gastrointestinal bug that's near impossible to kill. For example, Purell has no effect. How do you deal with it when you've had contact because you touched something? Handwashing. Anti-bacteria soaps are useless here. The important thing is to get it off your hands and down the sink. So, handwashing with soap and warm water (to cut the oils) is more important that many realize. The MRSA in hospitals thing was a big deal a few years ago. It was a nationwide crisis. Our hospital signicantly reduced the incidence of contamination by reinforcing handwashing. It was on posters, it was on every computer screen. But, it worked. Simple handwashing.

Near riot down to the Walmart yesterday. They put out five boxes of the germ masks (100/bx) marked at $500/bx. People were ready to fight over them.

To put it in perspective, I have access to N95 masks. A lot of them. How many do I have at home? Zero.

If I tell you that I'm bringing a couple boxes home from work and handing them to my family, then you will need to start worrying.

I've had five co-workers out with the flu in the past six weeks, and believe me I am far more concerned about that than anything else.

Yeah, CDC had a too narrow case definition - one that was totally out of sync with Nancy Messonier's very ominous news briefing (until I discovered she is Rod Rosenstein's sister). They should have broadened their case definition or at the very least started surveillance before issuing such a dire warning. S. Korea, on the other hand, is totally on the ball - they are testing everyone and their mother.

On a different note, China showed that the infection rate can be slowed (you don't have to believe they are telling the truth about absolute numbers, just the rate of change). Keeping the spread in check (we'll never get it to zero without some outside help - a vaccine or possibly weather) keeps the hospitals from being overwhelmed, which dramatically increases survival rates for those who become seriously ill.

As Chinese data trends show, and as even the WHO team that was in China noted, hospital and quarantine beds in China are being freed up as the recoveries are outpacing the new infections. They seem to have inflected from being totally overrun to making this manageable.

Also, if other countries including the US can slow the infection rate, that buys us time for warmer weather. As I've noted before, even with all the spread outside China, we still aren't seeing much in the way of community outbreaks in countries near the equator or those in the southern hemisphere. So to the extent weather plays a role, as it does with influenza, the northern hemisphere countries need to act quickly to buy a couple of months for the weather to lend a hand.

While I've dismissed many of the rumors circulating around this outbreak, allow me to finally dust off my tinfoil hat and posit that given the high motivation of the globalists and deep state/intelligence community to thwart Trump, they might go find an infected person or two and use them to seed large outbreaks (put them on a cruise or long flight). That could tank the US economy heading into the election.

Indeed. If we can move the curve to the right, as I've seen it put by delaying the spread it will buy time for more solutions and general preparedness options. If we're lucky, we can delay it enough to get to where the weather has an impact. We're about to go into March, which in this central part of NC starts with an average daily high of 60 and ends with a daily high of about 70, so we are starting to warm up. I wonder what the tipping point temperature is for this disease.

This is not the first I have heard of this concept. The Dimorhoids are so hungry for power and to defeat Trump that it I wouldn't put it past them. They also know that it looks like Bernie is going to be the voter's choice and the party isn't happy with that, I am sure.

Wife and I rode over to Greenville. Stopped by Harbor Freight to pick up some things and mask were sold old. Stopped by Autozone and the same thing. Stopped by Advance and asked an associate if they had any and he said "You won't believe this but I have a hard time keeping them in because of the Corona virus." I told him that I believe him. I was just looking for some for when I clean my chicken coops (True. I figure if they are they getting that hard to find I'd better get some for later). He states he night have some in the back and comes out with a box. Leaves it on the counter for the young associate to ring up. $3.xx for 10. After looking when I left I got to wondering if it was suppose to be for one instead of all 10. There are 10 in a bag.

Under normal circumstances that sounds about right, or at least what I would expect to pay. I think >$3 for a single mask would be expensive.

They are usually $1-2 or around that at different places. The Advance Auto website states "Sold by each." 30 cents each even without the current Corona virus situation is cheap. No complaints from me.

For anyone that uses these for whatever reason (cleaning coops, etc) you may want to check the auto part stores or small town hardware stores for some. It looks like they can not be ordered online from any of the usual retailers like Walmart, Lowes, etc. Prices on Amazon have got stupid.

Trump admin announced new travel restrictions with respect to Iran and affected areas of Italy and S.Korea. Good move. I hope they react more quickly as new large outbreaks hit other countries.

Governments should all consider suspending commercial cruises given what we've seen with respect to transmission on the plague ship.
