Wuhan, nCV, germs....

The R0 would have to be through the roof for that many to be infected. Unless it’s an orgy cult or something. Wow.
Have you ever seen religious groups who gather around and lay their hands on sick people while they pray for wellness? In a cult that believes sickness and wellness is a matter of faith, I can envision a ridiculously high transmission rate. Add to that the funeral gathering for the cult founder's brother just as the virus started percolating and you have a double-whammy.

This group also has a congregation in . . . Wuhan, China.

Still. It would have to be airborne to spread that quickly. And HIGHLY infectious.

And so it begins:

Worried shoppers thronged a Costco box store near Lake Oswego, emptying shelves of items including toilet paper, paper towels, bottled water, frozen berries and black beans.

“Toilet paper is golden in an apocalypse,” one Costco employee said.

Employees said the store ran out of toilet paper for the first time in its history and that it was the busiest they had ever seen, including during Christmas Eve.

Undoubtedly the funniest story of the outbreak so far.

https://www.zerohedge.com/health/silver-linings-playbook-119-people-quarantined-brothel-spain

Of all the places to be quarantined, a brothel in Valencia, Spain, might not be the worst. You've got booze, you've likely got a small buffet of fried foods and you've got entertainment.

But in all seriousness, that was exactly the case a day ago when authorities found that a woman working at the "La Selva Negra" brothel had tested positive for coronavirus. The findings forced authorities to quarantine the premises and the 86 customers that were inside.

And for all those guys who told their wives they were going to a wine tasting with their buddies and instead went to the brothel, the news may be worse than coronavirus - you're officially busted.

It is airborne...and highly infectious. That’s why it’s spreading so successfully.

Update:Coronavirus now on east coast first confirmed case in Rhode Island

Never seen From Dusk Till Dawn?

this case probably from cruise or a fly back...there would have been news about a novel community-born case in Boston, not just a count buried in tracker
The Boston case was a student returning from Wuhan, China on January 28.
The Rhode Island case is apparently a chaperone on a school trip to Italy, France and Spain in mid-February.

Maybe this was already posted, but some medical people seem to be thinking warmer weather will quell an outbreak. Since we have largely open boarders to the south, that would be a factor. I think they said there was only one sickness in Mexico. A small number on Africa.

There's a lot of research ahead. A long way until a vaccine in China and Iran.

The five cases in Mexico were all people who have traveled to Italy and contracted the virus. The case in Nigeria was an Italian man who had gone to Nigeria on contract work.

Future News...

And in an unexpected turn of events, there was a sudden migration of US citizens across the border into Mexico, trying to escape the virus.

Washington...upstate NY...possible Maryland...possible Texas... I am curious what the nexus is. Or might they all have coronavirus, but not COVID-19?

Besides Washington, the cases in other states typically have a link to travel to Italy, although the NY case involved travel to Iran.

RI cases are connected to a school trip to Italy in February. Infected are a school employee, a student and other adult. School is closed for disinfecting and may reopen Wednesday. School is located in city of Pawtucket RI.

Good thing I only drink flavored water :) I hate plain water. id rather drink mud.

Living in apartment I can only have so much prep on hand. used to have a vault room and pantry in basement dedicated to preps. Ugh. Lets hope that food and water doesn't look like the ammo market circa 2012-2015/16. I imagine it won't because at some point, after a few weeks in isolation, people will realize its just a ******* flu at the end of the day (if they're not old or otherwise compromised w/ regard to immune or pulmonary health).

I found a bunch of masks in my garage from where I was sprayin weedz.

Wake county is reporting a positive case...breaking on multiple local news outlets now.

The individual returned from trip to Washington State, from that long term care facility where the outbreak is happening there. No telling who else is infected now from the trip on the plane, and now here. Fun times ahead.

So I'm thinking this virus is either less contagious than influenza OR it's much milder than we think it is. I'm looking at various countries', including China's, ability to contain the virus. We don't even try to contain influenza, we just mitigate the harm. You could argue that these countries aren't containing the virus and that it's spreading undetected - well, ok, if that's the case, then it's much milder than we think it is. Seems to me the data does not support the notion that the virus is both more contagious than influenza AND as dangerous as we think it is.

It's about that time....

I wonder if I’ve already had it. Had a weird cold with a dry cough in December. Didn’t really put me down but I was fatigued for a week or so.

Hold on to your hat and he we go. People need to be prepared and smart....oops, that can't happen can it?
Wash you hands

This. This right here. It is interesting if you read between the lines in the SKY IS FALLING drive-by Media stories. Many of them say that most people see mild or no symptoms, almost the same as the common cold, but can pass this on to others. You know what that sounds like? A common frickin cold.

I had something for 2 weeks in mid-January that kicked my ass. It quickly when from my nose to my lungs and I coughed up crud for a week. And some of you know that I have many many vectors with our Chinese cousins. From overnight paperwork, product samples to actual real live Chinese people. Meeting and Working and Drinking Tea and Breaking Bread...

Hmmm......
