2022 edition animal harvest pic thread

I just want somebody to come up with something like a chicken deboner, only for deer, that I can attach to the front of our vehicles.

Screw all that extra work involved with hunting in the cold, dragging the carcass out, lugging it home, cleaning and butchering.

Stupid deer are ALWAYS looking for cars to hit, I say let them come to you.

CRUNCH! WHIRRRRRRR!

Fur and bones fly overhead, 100 pounds of venison sausage packaged and ready to go in the freezer as soon as you get home.

You feeling better after your incident?

I am.

Got some deer jerky made today and deer cube steak in the instant pot.

Although I'm covered up in beef from the cows I've been buying, I still feel like i need to be in the woods.

Love the deer!

Oh, almost forgot. I also cooked up some stuffed wild hog sausage this evening and put back five jars of pickled quail eggs.

You get 2 holes with that hard cast? Curious on shot distance and how far he ran too. Impressive either way
2 holes

Shot distance was 25 yards.

He ran about 60 yards.

I was aiming for the scapula but unfortunately he was quartering towards me ever so slightly. So I grazed the shoulder and blew through "the kill zone" which wasn't actually my intention. I wanted to see how good I could anchor one with that round by shooting "scapula to scapula".

It all worked out though. And with this years weather putting a hurtin on my harvest when it was so warm for so long, I ain't complaining.

Fresh deer and wild foraged mushrooms (for the gravy) on the firebowl.
So, maybe that was you with the cannon about 7;:14am yesreday?

somebody with something large went off once yesterday about sunrise. A friend a d i got a deer last weekend, Sunday about 7:15

Mine was about 6:36am Saturday morning.

If you ae talking about your place or your mom's, no way you'd hear a 9mm from that distance. There's a LOT of folks hunting in between you and I.

One thing I love about Goldston, it's not unusual for good deer to be killed right in the edge of the town limits.
More importantly, NOBODY cares! LOL!

Theres somebody around here, between our place on the south side and town with a large caliber rifle. I think they just bagged another deer a few minutes ago.

Youre right, nobody cares if you shoot around here. Everyone is just courteous enough not to shoot at houses and keep it in a safe direction. I remember shooting that opossum that I trapped that was going for my chickens. Told the neighbors about it and they said good on you for shooting it.

The deer we got was at my parents. We sat on the front porch and took advantage of the fact that they have a routine for walking along the road / driveway.

How did the BB ammo perform?

He ran 60 yards and then piled up. I'm happy with the performance. Through and through. I just gotta get one into the shoulder broadside and see what happens. But kill zone was fine. I will certainly use it again.

Tonight marks my 73rd stand for deer since opening on 1 Oct. Just finished a grand 5 day outing with Pals.
Awesome week Fellas, and an awesome time of year.

Somewhere out there is a pic of me and a buddy making buck scrapes, hope it shows up soon, so cool to work together.

Lizzabeth is loaded and ready for does this evening. All is well in my world. Such Blessings.

I tried to hold out for deer this morning, I really did. But by maybe 7:45am or so, the urge was just too strong.
Numbers 32 and 33 had to come on home with me!

Deer started running all over the place at 8:30-9. I was just about to shoot a really fat doe and some knucklehead spike ran her off

So this season has been really weird. Not many deer moving. Corn barely touched. Trails not being used like they should be. Sitting in the stand this morning and as the leaves fell I had been noticing things looked different down near the creek. After seeing nothing this morning I walked down to the edge of the property. Sure enough, the landowner by the creek has cleared that property AGAIN. Now there is an open field running down to the gas line on the other side. And between us and the creek they came in and cut all the thick stuff out leaving just the older trees. What was acres of several year old clear cut thicket is not open ground. I'm probably lucky I even got 2 deer. I know there is one more using the property so I'll stay after that one. This was done over the summer or early fall. It will take until next season for the deer to start moving again. The joys of suburban hunting.

The deer are not moving out of the woods. I did not see near the numbers I am used to. I was lucky to get this 8 pointer. My cousin said blue tongue was really bad in the Northwestern counties this year. He had several photos of big deer laying dead in the farm fields this summer.

Little guy came down behind me last monday. I couldn't turn or stand in the climber stand. Had to shoot him left handed and that really messes with your shooting mechanics. Processing today for freezer.

This takes my 2 antlered tags. Told hunting buddy that I'm in freezer mode not trophy mode this year. 1st buck is last Monday and a darn near perfext heart shot. 2nd is a 7 point from Oct 19th. Didn't get a heart shot, but I shot out the arteries to the heart. Both did a 180* jump flop and didn't run. 20221121_181056.jpg20221121_195122.jpg20221019_191349.jpg20221019_201518.jpg

Is that kid barefooted?
Actually…yes…he is…

So…he was going to the bathroom and slipped off the ramp to the blind, landed up to his knees/crotch in the sound. So we dragged him out, stripped him from the waist down. I took off my waders and gave him my gortex wader pants, covered him with a poncho liner and a wool blanket I carried “just in case.” He was pretty chilled, but the sun came out and we dried his socks and thermal underwear on the roof of the blind. We only hunt half days because my daughter who was also there can’t wee in the marsh.

I hear @kcult has a bucket for that?
I also hear he is veery particular about his buckets!

But seriously, we have offered, but she is my gunpowder princess. She loves knives, guns, the smell of gunpowder in the morning, as well as fingernails, makeup, hair dolling and cute outfits. So, she maybe one day I’ll get her to pee in a bucket, but for now it’s “eww gross dad.” So I take the half day hit just to keep her out there.

6-7 hours in a box is a haul for kids.
