Gun sniffing dog being deployed at Southpoint Mall

What this sounds like is that people need to "seed" the mall with all kinds of scents nominally associated with firearms. A lot of those substances can hang around for months. Spritzing gun oils/solvents and such in entryways (especially door frames and the like, which wouldn't be cleaned as much as just floors), along grout lines, in corners, on the artificial potted plants, in the cracks, crevices, & seams of chairs/benches, would do a couple things:

1. Cause the dogs to alert on so many things that they could become "unreliable" in actually picking out true hits.

2. Desensitize the dogs to the extent that they simply WON'T alert any more because the scents will be all around them and they won't be getting the positive re-enforcement their ongoing training requires to keep them up to par.
I marked this a sad because it will screw up the dog. That said...
I have no problem with doing it.

Assuming of course that this dog is actually trained to sniff stuff out instead of just security theater. As far as I can tell, the dog is only present on Fridays and Saturdays. I can easily see the security company putting other dogs in the rotation to fulfill the letter of the contract, but charging for a service that isn't always rendered.

The next time I go to the mall on a Friday or Saturday I will put it to the test.

If it wasn't conspicuously posted, they ask you to leave. If they're nice and it was conspicuously posted, they ask you to leave. If they're jerks and it was conspicuously posted, you can be arrested and charged with a Class 1 misdemeanor.
The last pro-gun bill we got through prior to that tyrant Cooper coming in changed this to an infraction. Now it’s a $500 ticket but it’s no longer an arrestable offense.

Colombiana Mall in Irmo put these signs up a few months ago. I've been there on a few Fridays and Saturdays with the wife and never even saw them. If they aren't there on the weekend, I kinda doubt they're ever actually there.

Or just don‘t go to the mall and let the gang bangers kill each other off in the parking lots.

Throw a few fired cases in your pocket, get someone to film and let the games begin.
Or stop by after a day at the range and have nothing at all on your person … the multitude of scents should light up any true gun sniffing dog.

As to theater … back after 9/11 a facility I was entering had a military K-9 setup (I knew it was a valid K-9) and informed the guard I had been at a range recently so my vehicle might cause an alert so be ready. He walked the dog around as you’d expect and the dog did not signal. I kinda laughed and said that I would have almost bet he’d have alerted on the rear cargo door. The handler kinda smirked and told me he would have been real worried if he did cause the dog was actually a search & rescue cadaver dog. They were running any K-9 they had for “appearance” because they EOD dogs were stretched so thin.

filter cleaning solvents through gunpowder, mix the solvents with hoppes 9.
put it in a vape pen up your sleeve and rig it to a small fan. run your hand over everything and mist the whole dang mall.

From what I've read, it's GSR and the powder contained in ammunition that 'gun-sniffing' dogs are trained to detect. Their noses are apparently sensitive enough to smell powder in an unfired bullet loaded in a gun that's never been fired before (i.e. no GSR present).

So, anyone wanting to screw with the mall cops and their 'gun-sniffing' dogs likely only needs to carry ammo sans gun on his/her person and or sprinkle/spread loose powder throughout the mall...

I have a baggie half filled with powder from pulled bullets. Cut a hole in the corner and walk around.

They're trained to the oils, powder, and residue from discharged firearms. So a bomb sniffing dog, for example, won't necessarily trigger on guns because they're typically trained for nitrate compounds associated with many explosives.

Saturate the place with every type of burnt, unburnt powder, and gun lube available. Commence operation #ConfoundCanine

it might have been nicer if the folded it to the right so us righties (90% of the market) could also make use of the left side of the rail... it's not like you have to worry about blocking the ejection port when it's folded in half...
