And we're told a majority of Millenials in the US are in favor of socialism!
Someone posted a comment somewhere, I don't think here. I think on another forum's political section that was spot on...
The reason us older farts rail against socialism, communism, and all its variants is because we remember the wall falling in Berlin 30 years ago. We remember the news of the tyranny, pictures of empty shelves in the markets, the poverty...
Today's young people born in the 90's were born just a decade prior to the financial collapse of 2008. They saw the ugly underbelly of capitalism at its worst.
I think this explains a lot of what we are seeing in the news today.
Dont believe the hype, there are a TON of conservative kids out there. A TON.
Actually, the more we see this on the news (and we watch a news program many days so they can see what's happening in the country and world), the more they realize how messed up socialism and communism is!
Hype? LOL, I don't think so. Google "millenials" and "socialism" and you'll find articles/polls/studies going back to at least 2016 which claim that 51+% of millenials now favor socialism over capitalism. Heck, there was one of those articles on drudge's home page earlier today. There may be tons of conservative kids where you're from, but they're in the minority compared to the rest of the country.
Hey, brother, I don't make the news. I just read it.What, they don't have history books any more?
Bring out your dead!Good luck to those looters piled on the trucks and hauled away... probably not going to end well for them!
We're told people think history began when they were born; I guess there may be something to it. But Dear God, every damned thing I've experienced in my long and misspent life has reinforced the notion that free markets, personal responsibility and minimal government produce the best results. Nothing else even comes close. How can people miss this if they have eyes? I blame the public education system and the people who voted for those school boards. Don't get me started...Hey, brother, I don't make the news. I just read it.
I thought that explanation of how a whole generation might feel the way they do made a lot of sense. Doesn't make it right, but at least adds some level of explanation to the otherwise inexplicable.
If somebody has a better explanation I am all ears.
My youngest son (just graduated from business school magna cum laude) had to write a screed on why he "strongly supports free markets" in a scholarship application to one of the UNC campuses. We're told people think history began when they were born; I guess there may be something to it. Like..,real ones or the ones they put in schools? What, they don't have history books any more?
My guess it's going to Moscow in the shape of a pallet with gold bars on it.Given Venezuela's natural resources socialism should have thrived. There is plenty of wealth to distribute... so where's it all going?
What, they don't have history books any more?

Your exactly right kids now days have every thing handed to em on a silver platter all they have to say is I want it and mom and dad give it to em. There is no working for it like me and most of you on here did we learn to appreciate
things a lot more when you have to earn it.
If one looks at the failures of AmeriKan crony capitalism and filters it through the lens of the millennials and projects what they see going forward, it becomes easy to see why they want to scrap the system in exchange for socialism.Hey, brother, I don't make the news. I just read it.

This is corruption at work, not socialism.
So why did mom and dad decide to do that?
What the the Baby Boomer generation do differently that made them want to spoil their kids like that?
BUT: Given Venezuela's natural resources socialism should have thrived. There is plenty of wealth to distribute... so where's it all going?

To be clear I am not a fan of socialism, not even the current American version. Capitalism and free markets are my preferred system.
BUT: Given Venezuela's natural resources socialism should have thrived. There is plenty of wealth to distribute... so where's it all going?
With force there will always be someone wielding the levers of said force, and they will not go hungry.
I think you're mistaken there... The only difference between what we have right now in America and "true socialism" is the tax rate. We're livin' the dream since FDR and The New Deal.Socialism by it's very nature is a command economy. It is force. Full Stop.
Honest question - how many polls do you take part in?
How many polls said Trump had no chance?
My point in simple - polls/reports etc arent always accurate or include everyone.
Youre right, maybe my blinders are on due to my location, but I have a hard time believing a majority are pro-socialism.
again... how is that different than what we have today in America? I still haven't heard anything to support the argument that socialism is ruining Venezuela. I see it as the tool, not the cause.
Again: I don't like or want socialism. I like free markets and capitalism. and honest debates.
