.380 pistol questions

Yeah I found a new place for my minimalist slim wallet and carried the BG front right. Easy to do with pockets for cargo.

For you guys that pocket carry, do you dedicate your strong side front pocket? I’m a front pocket wallet guy, so not sure that I could make it work.

I got a cool little front pocket wallet shaped like the front pocket with a curve, and I keep it skinny with just the necessities.

My wife keeps my wallet skinny. :(

Another vote for the TCP, I have one and it's never failed me. It has eaten everything I've fed it including some pretty radical SD ammo. Normally I hate two tone guns but this one looks good in stainless.

Another Keltec P3AT user. It's well worn and had been carried a lot when I got it. I thought about replacing it with either the BG or LCP but the trigger on the BG felt like it had been dropped in the sand. The LCP wasn't bad, but for what I got in the P3AT, I'll definitely keep it (I may add an LCP later). The trigger is long, but smooth and not too heavy. Just slide it in my back right in a pocket holster.

Had Taurus (Junk), Had LCP (hated the trigger), got a Glock 42 (love it!) I find that even though it's a little bigger, it's manageable and worth it!

Bought this in 08 when they first came out. I've put in excess of 1600 rounds through it and have cerakoted the slide twice. It has never once had a failure and has digested every FMJ and JHP round I've fired through it.

I've had a TCP, and while I had it, it ran great with never an issue. I now have a LCP II and it so far is running like a clock. Shoots great, and the trigger is way better then the original LCP. Also have a Glock 42, and a Bersa Thunder 380. The G-42 is by far the best shooter, but too big for me to pocket carry, so the LCPII gets that role. Also, hit up Back Woods Bang Shop for the absolute best price on the LCP or TCP.

That Remington RM380 looks great.
I carry my LCP in my right pocket with a pocket holster every day.
The reviews I've read on the Taurus have all been good.

I'd be a player at a buck and a quarter!

I WAS using an LCP in front right pocket in a sticky holster. I would almost forget it was there.

The takedown pin fell out! That was supposed to be fixed! Until then it ran flawlessly. For the first time ever I heard click instead of bang. Waited a moment, went to eject the round in the chamber figuring I had my first dud .380 round, and the slide came off in my hand!

Dropped off at Academy Sports where I bought it, to be sent back to Ruger since I may not be able to be here when they return it.

Three plus weeks have passed and Ruger doesn't have it yet, and the guy on the phone sounded a bit frazzled when I called Academy about it and didn't have a real answer. Tis the season I guess. I'll roll by there when I know the department manager is working.

Depending on what Ruger says and does, I'm not sure I'll trust it again...

I have (had????) a .380 that went back 3 times for the same issue. The first two times, they claimed they replaced some parts and it test-fired ok. Each of those times, the issue would recur within the first magazine I shot. The third time, it was supposedly elevated to more senior techs and after having it a couple weeks, they wrote back to say it was "unrepairable" (ya think???).

They called to say they would replace the gun. That was 12 days ago. They still can't provide any information about the status of the replacement.

Maybe 380 guns are cursed?

Maybe, but I am having faith so far. I’ve always heard Ruger tries hard to get it right if there is a problem. I’m more concerned that no one seems to know where it is other than sent to Az.

What brand .380 are you trying to get taken care of?

I've had an LCP and a TCP. The LCP fit in my pocket better but I can shoot the TCP much better. I've never had an issue with either of them as far as function is concerned.

Another +1 for the S&W Bodyguard. I had a G42 and LOVED it but, size wise it is a bit bigger and not nearly as easily concealable.

I've given up on all .380s other than my Glock 42. Bought Mrs. P a Kahr CW380 to replace her ailing LCP but it's struggling too. Might tell her to just to carry a pocket full of loose .380. She's got a good arm. She can throw it hard.

Just seeing this thread today so I will contribute.

Glock 42

I'm not a Glock fanboy, it's actually the only one I own. I can't shoot a Glock 43 or 19 worth a damn, but I can shoot the 42 very well out to 30yds. The pistol is ridiculously easy to shoot.

I like M&P's and shoot then very well. My main competition gun is a M&P and my other carry gun is a M&P Shield. I'm looking HARD at an M&P 2.0 Compact just because I love how they fit my hand and how well I shoot them.

However, I EDC my Glock 42 99% of the time. My shield only see's use during the winter months on occasion.

Both pistols ride in Tulster IWB holsters and spare mags in Tulster Echo mag carriers.

I just put Tartan Tactical Innovations +2 mag extensions on my Glock 42 mags yielding 8 +1 capacity in the pistol and 8 on the belt.

Can you expand on what's gong on with the Kahr and lcp?
Mine were ammo picky. I didn't like the LCP so I sold it. The wee Kahr 380 is particular about what you feed it, but if you feed mine what it likes it is a great shooter and gives me no trouble.

So far the new LCP II has ate everything I've thrown at it. Fired about 25 rounds of Tulammo steel without a hiccup. So far I'm liking this thing.

Sure, so far, both have been generally unreliable. Sometimes they feed well for a while. Then, there are a bunch of hiccups. In fairness to the Kahr, I am just outside the break in period. It has improved somewhat and does better with hot loads. I just sort of object to a long break in with the hope that the gun might eventually gain some acceptable level of reliability. The we are just past that point in firearm design where it should be an issue. I have thrown 300+ round of .380 (several types) downrange just to make this little gun pocket ready and I am not there yet.

Also, in the interest of full disclosure, I am biased against these little pocket pistol type guns. I just do not think they work well over the long-term. A few might function adequately. Even fewer function adequately if you are moving, changing positions, or doing anything other than standing perfectly still at the range. One or two might do okay. In my view, that level of sensitivity presents a problem. This is my personal experience and my observation (of others too) over the course of many thousands of rounds and many different types of small pocket pistol types (except the Glock 42).

I am also frustrated because, despite my concerns set out above, my wife is only going to regularly carry a LCP or Kahr or something just as small. For variety of reasons the larger downs (even the Glock 42) are difficult for the conceal. Maybe I will feed her a few biscuits and fatten her up so that she can conceal something bigger. Ha. Also, I am just sort of cranky today...so there's that too.

In defense of the wee Kahr, I think if you try some PMC Bronze, UMC, or Hornday it might hopefully surprise you. Mine ran that ammo great in the gun right out of the box.

I shot that tiny little thing in a BUG match and outshot 60% of the field. The only thing harder to put rounds on target while moving and shooting would be a J Frame due to the heavier trigger. Or an early LCP with the dreadful trigger.

Sig P230 that was made in West Germany at the height of the Cold War.

You must have big pockets!

Another SIG P230 fan here. Not too big for my pockets unless I'm rocking my skinny jeans.

I also have a Glock 42 .380 but I prefer the old SIG
