5320.20 drama

I like your idea.

Or get a C&R and forget the whole process.

Imagine people at ATF being paid to process these forms, that NOBODY, especially the ATF gives a rats backside about. They're like the letter to the sheriff indicating you purchased an NFA item. Steve Bizell probably has a file cabinet full of these unopened notes every year which he too, doesn't care about and wished he didn't receive because they're a pain to store and then shred .
Between SOT's Ive filed a crapload of form 1's and 4's. When I did them I would email them in to the sherrifs office after they were just supposed to notified . If they got them thats cool. If not , not my problem.

So now itā€™s time for the next plan to get put in motionā€¦
Just for your entertainment, here is the reply I sent to the above message:

Which triggered this reply from Taylor:

And then I said:

ā€¦which hasnā€™t received any reply. šŸ¤£

Do you know where your dog is?

Seriously, the C&R is only $10 a year, so it's a bargain. Lots of cool guns built up to 1973 and earlier are available .

So I'm having a weird issue with a 5320.20 I submitted. Basically I submitted two forms (1 & 2) on 9/11/23, same exact info and SBRs, just different "To" addresses. Received approval for #2 about a month later, never heard anything about #1.

So a few weeks go by and I get my last F1 SBR approved so I send in two more forms (3 & 4) with the same kind of info as the first two on 10/31/23, figured I'll throw in #1 again in case it got overlooked. Received approval for #3 & #4 about 3 weeks later, but again no #1 (they came in on Saturday).

What should I do here?
Found out what happened, USPS' sorting machines got angry at my approval šŸ˜„

Letters in Lieu have been submittedā€¦šŸ˜Ž

Not expected approvals, just waiting to see what the reply is.

Hereā€™s what the top of the letter looks like:

IMG_4792.jpeg

I removed the header and footer. Most of the vertical borders are gone. Almost everything in parenthesis (instructions after a label) are gone. Got rid of all the numbers/letters in front of the labels, or references to them.

I did leave the Certification statement at the bottom for my signature, but changed ā€œformā€ to ā€œletterā€ in the statement. šŸ˜

Got a reply, faster than I expected. šŸ™„

They are there to help you, never forget this.

Congratulations on a win.
Iā€™m not sure itā€™s a win, as I have no idea what they actually mean theyā€™ll do with itā€¦

Processed as correspondence = throw it in the trash?

Damn you. I cant stop watching your avatar
I keep thinking about changing it. The red catches my eye at the top of the screen and I think I have an alert of some kind. šŸ¤£

I sent mine the night that I talked to you. Itā€™s been over 2 weeks and I havenā€™t heard back from anyone.

Then youā€™re probably ok. The approved forms will show up soon.

man, i keep meaning to submit but forgetting
did they placce a limit on the number of submissions you can do in one envelope?

No ideas. I email mine in.

Email it or use the online generator
yeah, it's not an issue of difficulty. it's that i work a lot and as soon as i'm not working anymore, i sit and let my brain go mushy and dread the fact that work is gonna call me anyway.

All of this makes me less mad that I can't afford any of that since the good government made it too expensive.

Got my permission slip approval date stamped 12-05, in my mailbox on 12/10. Filed 11/28.

My Informed Delivery email shows nine envelopes from the ATF coming todayā€¦

Approvals? Denials? Whereā€™s the 10th one? šŸ¤”

Good luck with informed deliver lately. Theyre running 3-4 days behind where I love
Mine have been ~95% correct in the last few weeks. An item or two a day late, and an item or two a day early.

Yā€™all ainā€™t gonna believe this crap. I got 9 approved forms back today. Forms, not Letters in Lieu. There are dated back on 11/22 when I first sent them in, even though two different people said they wouldnā€™t accept them.

And thereā€™s a note on every one that one SN should be 5.56 instead of .50, so evidently my amendment letter never got processed.

tried creating new pdfs that i could mail off. my old version of full acrobat won't work with the new pdf format, loses half the fields.
tried doing a digital signature, it kept giving me errors
tried to do an install of regular acrobat reader. install tried to uninsatall my old versions of everything. i hit cancel. it installed mcaffee scanner instead and wouldn't let me cancel.

does this count as drama?

So a quick clarification, not that it really matters.

My original forms for this year are not the ones approved. Those were sent in on 11/18. These are the ones I submitted on 11/22 with the AOW removed. That has nothing to do with it, but since I was updating the forms anyway Iā€™d removed it.

The more frustrating part is the alternate config letter was attached to the same email. I could understand if the original (11/18) forms were what got approved and that letter was missed. I did find the email where I told Taylor what I was submitting, and replied to it earlier this evening asking about that letter not getting processed.

Now I wait to see if the 10th form shows up. And if the Letters in Lieu actually get processed at some pointā€¦or if they toss them showing that those SNs are already approved for the same dates and locations. šŸ¤”

Looked at my forms again and Iā€™m even more confused. They didnā€™t flag the SN that has a different barrel length.

They flagged the SN thatā€™s registered as 5.56 but I submitted as .50 for travel. This is the same issue that started this entire thread in 2020. I submitted an alternate config at that time and have has forms approved in ā€˜21 and ā€˜22 with .50 as the caliber. I may call Thu or Fri and see if they see the alternate config in the system.

No sign of the 10th form yet.

I got 5 forms like this back today. hopefully the other 3 will show up soon too. trying to be able to go from NC to SC, FL, NV, and MI just for no reason at all.. well, for apocalypse training...

and if you filed a form to transport your braced pistol, but haven't gotten your "free" form 1 back yet... this is why

Extra points for the creative "reason for submission".

If you ever thought about the quintessential government bureaucrat pushing meaningless paper, the 5320 processors nail it!

The thing that terrifies me the most is the thought of reopening the NFA for changes. It might be irrational and grossly outdated and an infringement but it could and probably would get a LOT worse with tinkering to ā€œmodernizeā€ it.

I agree with you ^^

Better the devil you know, than that you don't know. The first target would be the cost of the stamp ( "let's make this $2,000 to catch up with the times").

The more that ATF dicks with it (as in the arm brace debacle) the more mess they make of the whole registry. The whole thing is a dumpster fire and I can't imagine the chaos that would result by any effort to "fix" the data in the records.

As far as changing the rules: Never open Pandora's Box! (and never ask ATF questions!)

re: the PENDING amnesty F1's .... since it's not been illegal to add more braces to pistols since the ruling was stayed, will we get an "amnesty" round 2 at some point to cover the braced pistols being assembled, if the ATF goons happen to win the appeals court ruling? (I don't think they will but it's possible)

so after i got those 5 forms back, i'm still missing a few it seems. it's been about a week, so i have no idea where they got lost along the way.
i can see them waiting on my "braced pistols", but of the 12 forms i sent in, that should only be 4 (by design, lumped together) and 8 should get approved no problem. i got 5 back, but 3 are still missing.
I guess i get to resubmit them.
