5320.20 drama

So a quick clarification, not that it really matters.

My original forms for this year are not the ones approved. Those were sent in on 11/18. These are the ones I submitted on 11/22 with the AOW removed. That has nothing to do with it, but since I was updating the forms anyway I’d removed it.

The more frustrating part is the alternate config letter was attached to the same email. I could understand if the original (11/18) forms were what got approved and that letter was missed. I did find the email where I told Taylor what I was submitting, and replied to it earlier this evening asking about that letter not getting processed.

Now I wait to see if the 10th form shows up. And if the Letters in Lieu actually get processed at some point…or if they toss them showing that those SNs are already approved for the same dates and locations. 🤔
^that^ post is from 12/23…

The 10th one showed up today, 1/17. Approval date is 1/10. Same dumb note about the .50 needing to be 5.56. 🙄

Had another envelope show up today. No idea what it was going be. Turns out it’s a confirmation of the alternate config note I sent in. 🙄

so after i got those 5 forms back, i'm still missing a few it seems. it's been about a week, so i have no idea where they got lost along the way.
i can see them waiting on my "braced pistols", but of the 12 forms i sent in, that should only be 4 (by design, lumped together) and 8 should get approved no problem. i got 5 back, but 3 are still missing.
I guess i get to resubmit them.
Update:
on 1/14/24 I resubmitted the 3 missing forms.
Today I got back 2 of them
Is 1 still out in no-man's-internet? is it on the way? who knows?
I'll give it a couple days and then try again, i guess.
It sure would be nice if you could just attach one extended form and have that approved... Next time I do this i'm gonna try that "letter of request... in lieu of the form" approach

OMG my head is spinning. I wish I had read this start to finish in sequential order, cause I can't do this again. I apologize if the answers to the following were overlooked etc.

Was the "letter in lieu" with the instructions at the top accepted?

Has the C&R "exemption" ever been confirmed? Or is this just Holy-Mackeral-You're-Right! speculation?

Are ya'll doing 1/1/xxxx-12/31/xxxx date range requests? If they apparently approve requests that include the entire state as -the- destination then you must be blocking out the entire year right?

This whole thing just, well kinda, eh not really....forget it, I really am not surprised. This is just one I wasn't aware of.

More power to ya'll, beat them at their own bureaucracy!

I haven’t seen any of mine come back. They approved the earlier forms instead.

Don’t know the answer to this one.

When I first started filing them, I did that day through 12/31 of the same year…and then did 1/1-12/31 going forward. But they’ll take any one-year period. Just have to make sure the end date is one day prior to the start date. So, for example, all of these are legit:

1/1/24-12/31/24
2/12/24-2/11/25
3/1/24-2/28/25

Just can’t do 2/12/24-2/12/25…

Thanks for the answers there.

I knew there was something else I meant to ask, there was a "trying to file too soon for 2025" issue at one point. Has it ever been determined how far out one can file for the 365 day block? That must be a set time frame or else I imagine ya'll would have already pushed that envelope and preemptively filed up thru at least 2100.

I realize you guys are playing a game here that few realize is possible to play, within an already small population subset, but seeing the obvious advantage to doing this for anyone who thinks they may have a need to do interstate transport, it does make me wonder how much in the way of personnel resources withing the branch are being allocated simply for this paper theater. Do you get any sort of impression as to how many people are fully occupied processing these requests? Or how many of the requests are being filed similar to the way ya'll are filing them, as opposed to the "normal"/expected type filing? Obviously the fact that they allow these broad requests essentially moots any point the intent of this ever was supposed to have, so does it seem like those who are processing these requests are fully aware of the...pointlessness, or just dutiful drones?

I don’t have any idea what the guidelines are for “too early”.

If I wasn’t trying to file the quantity I am, I’d start this month sending a form in for ‘25. Then next month ‘26. And I’d keep going until I got a rejection.

Today I got the last of the 8. I have been made whole, and it only took nearly 2 months for them to rubber stamp as required

That's the spirit!

I might try a random one for 2028 just for grins.

Edit: looks like you can submit as an attachment over the web. Bingo!
